so we are WDW vets who have decided to go to Disneyland! We have a wedding to go to out there and I have convinced my hubby to let us spend Tuesday-Saturday at Disneyland! I have been there 5 times but the last time was in 1999 when I was 16 so needless to say I have no clue what I am doing! The only details I have are july 19th-23rd staying at a good neighbor hotel hopefully across the street and we will have 3 or 4 day park hoppers. We are not doing anything in California other than DLR. we plan on coming back the following year for 10 days so this is just to get our feet wet! My DH and 3 boys have never been so this will be a change of scenery for them as we go to WDW twice a year.
This long winded post is to basically ask what do I need to know? I'm just starting my research so I'm a bit overwhelmed with information! My boys(7 and 14) are really into marvel and Star Wars, they love fast rides , and they aren't going to know we are going until we leave the wedding and fly to lax!
Also a big catch is I have to get the best deals to make this work! Any deals in July? Is it cheaper to rent a car or get a shuttle? Please help!

Tia!

July is a busy month so it might be hard to find deals. But the good news is so much has been added since your last trip that it's going to be a real treat.
What airport are you flying into? If it's SNA then a cab is only $40 regardless of number of people or luggage. It's also the fastest way to and from the parks.

Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful time!

If you haven't already done so, read through this thread for some really helpful info: A DLR Guide for WDW Vets. If you plan on spending all your time in the parks, there won't be a need for a car. As mentioned above, SNA/John Wayne is the closest airport to DLR and easy to navigate. You can easily take a cab or Uber to the parks and maybe include a grocery stop on the way. (There is a Target on Harbor about 1 mile south of the parks.) As for hotels, what are your requirements? Free breakfast (hot or continental)? Refrigerator and/or microwave? Pool? Walkable for afternoon breaks? Let us know what you prefer/need, and we'll give you lots of suggestions!

Our last trip was in July toward the end of it in 2014. We stayed at Park Vue Inn which was right across the street and had free breakfast which was really good, we usuallt got to the parks about 30 mins after opening stayed til 1-2 then the kids swam at the hotel and we rested a while then went back to the parks about 5 ish for the evening make use of fastpasses!!! carsland is new to u and rsr is awesome also hopefully the starwars stuff in tomorrowland is still going on then with space mt being special and meet and greets with star wars characters...just remember you can get a ton done in the mornings also something we used a ton on warm summer days u can get free cups of water at any counter service places!!

Awesome! Thank you so much for all the info! I have been researching everything I can! I have been reading the wdw vet guide to dl. It has been very interesting ! I am learning so much! As far as my requirements for a room in very easy to please! I just want to be within walking distance preferably across the street, free breakfast is a plus, and clean! We plan on spending as much time in the parks as possible but being close by if a mid day break is necessary would be nice! I'm loving all of the info you all are giving! Thank you so much!

We were totally satisfied with Best Western Park Place last month. You can't get any closer to the crosswalk and they had free breakfast that was nothing amazing, but got us going in the morning.

Look into the Candy Cane Inn, too. It is on the same side of Harbor as the parks, about 10 minutes walk south. They are very clean, have a free continental breakfast, free parking, great customer service, and a private shuttle that runs on time. If you have AAA, there is a discount. They are located right next to a convenience store (with a 7-11 next door to that and a CVS across Katella), so picking up snacks and sundries is really easy.
