We took our first trip this past August and stayed at the BWV. We loved it, had a great time and are beginning the plans to go back again within the next year. We're thinking of the BCV or the AKV CL.

The BCV is great because we are within walking distance to so much stuff but we'd have to buy cereal, milk, snacks, beverages, etc. for the room. If we did AKV CL, we'd get the extended continental breakfast, plus beverages and snacks, hors d'ourves (sp?), etc. throughout the day and that would save us some money. The down side is that AKV is so far from everything. I'm leaning toward the BC but I like the idea of CL. What would you do?

AKV CL is really really really hard to get. Unless you are going in a low time and willing to walk the reservation or buying through the hotel side, it's not going to be a given that you can get it. I think there are only 10 rooms total for it (5 1 bedrooms, 5 studios, if someone books a 2 bedroom, that takes 2 rooms out of inventory).

Even at 11 months to the day, I had to book a 1 bedroom for our CL stay this March. DH enjoys CL, so I do try to book some nights every year. It plays havoc with our AKV points, only 14 out of 140 through March 2019!( Me, I booked a value 2 bedroom for my gals trip last September!)

So if we are able to get CL at AK, is it worth being so far away from everything? We are kind of "go with the flow" so we won't be doing rope drop and we won't be going to the parks every day and staying until park closing. I'm mostly concerned with DS being bored (and I don't think he'd care for the food at Saana and Jiko) and us feeling trapped in the back of beyond. But the idea of CL is so appealing.

IMG_2276.JPG As far as food goes, I think the Mara would have food that appeals to your son.

I have enjoyed CL probably 6 times, ranging 3-5 nights. One time I surprised my Sister with CL for her retirement trip, ( booked 11 months in advance, Nancy entered rehab 1 month before our trip) and she had just begun AA program, so neither of us used alcohol yet, we both thought it was a special experience.

I have described this experience before here, but one moonlit night, around midnight the herd of zebras gathered at the CL end of the Sunset Savannah. Folks around that area all watched them as some moved quietly around, some sleeping, we heard breathing noises. It seemed holy.

You are not guaranteed savannah view, that has never happened again, but each time we have had CL, no matter the view, I have enjoyed the experience. As I said, it makes DH very happy!

That picture and others showing the giraffe eating from the log were taken during that trip.

If you never experienced it, try it, try a split stay if you are worried for any reason about staying in AKV. In March, we have BWV first, because I really enjoy the Flower Show experience, and after that Tom and I have CL at Jambo!
