Help Me Decide on Dress ! ! ! UPDATE

I worked with my dress designer for about two hours this morning, and we came up with a design I *love*.

Take a look! It combines elements of both dresses that I wanted (the lace, the silk satin skirt, the pickups in the back, scalloped lace around the bottom of the hem). I feel like I was able to have it ALL!! The only thing I couldn't combine was the sash, but figure wise this style is more flattering, takes inches off my middle--it's the boning, I guess---so I have to go with that. ;)

kimnkel...
That combo dress is magnificent! It's going to look beautiful on you. It is the perfect dress, like you said, it combines the things you like from both dresses.

Good luck in the dress search! pssssssst and thanks for all the help on my help me pick a dress thread! :rotfl: Have a great weekend!

absolutely beautiful, make sure to post pics of yourself in it so we can see! BTW, who designed your dress, because I think we're all in love with the different designs you posted! :thumbsup2

I also worked as a bridal consultant, and off the shoulder gowns are very uncomfortable. The straps are difficult to stay in place. If you're going to be in your gown for a long time, I'd choose the second one. Good luck!

Thank you, everyone, for your help, support, and very kind comments.

About my dress: I fell in love with two dresses, a Monique and a Kenneth Pool for Amsale. ;) Good job, jojo! I fell in love, but it wasn't unconditional love--lol--it was like dating two really great guys, liking them both, but not liking them enough to marry them--and wishing they were combined so you could take it to the next level. In other words, I couldn't commit. And since both ran 6-8 thousand dollars (the dress, not the men) before alterations (too bad men can't be taken to the tailor's for alterations) I needed to feel COMMITTED--since me and Visa were going to be married to this dress for awhile.

Ultimately, I am just too frugal. There was no way I was going to spend that kind of money for a dress. I just refuse to pay that kind of money for a label--but I want the couture finishing (interior finished seams, silk lining, silk satin, silk chiffon venise lace, hand beading, hand appliqued lace, etc.) See, the problem is that once you put one of those designer gowns on, you are hooked. There is no going back. So what is a bride to do? I shopped designer sample sales, and while they were all beautiful, they are also all pretty much the same. I did a great deal of research to find a dress designer that would work with me so I could get what I wanted--at half the cost. I had specific ideas of the "look" I wanted, and she worked with me to achieve that.

Granted, my dress is still pricey, but I worked hard just to be able to even wear this dress. (I've gone from a size 22W to a size 10/12.) And couture fabrics and finishes don't come cheap, so I made like my own fairy Godmother, plunked dow my trusty Visa and now....move over Cinderella, you ain't got nothing on me!!

I will post pictures after my December wedding. 9 weeks to go--I can't believe it!

You will look stunning! Congratulations on your weight loss :cool1:

I just have to say, my gown was off-the-shoulder and I didn't have any problems with it staying up, hugging people, moving - no problems at all. It was heavy, with a semi-cathedral train, but I think it is all in how it is fit. My dress was made to my measurements by the designer and didn't need alterations when it came in. Maybe some designs or some shops just don't fit the bride correctly? All I know is, the off-the-shoulder look was perfect for me, it was not the least bit uncomfortable, and I absolutely loved my wedding gown :lovestruc

kimnkel I cannot wait to see pictures of your gown! I love all the lace and I'm happy for you that you are getting the gown of your dreams!!

JandJ--I have been told the key to comfort in strapless or off the shoulder is the fit. It's all about that. And thank you--

That third gown is GORGEOUS! The first two were very pretty, but the last one is amazing.

It's funny to compare it to men, because when you find The One, you know it. :)
