Help me decide on a special meal for mommy/daughter trip

Of the restaurants in AKL, would Boma be your recommendation? I have also heard great things about Sanaa. She's not an adventurous eater so I will have to look up the menus.

We love both Sanaa and Boma and eat at both of them every time we go to DW. I bet Boma would be better for a not adventurous eater - they have a huge variety. Although we went to Sanaa with our DDs friend who doesn't eat a variety of food and she ordered a child's burger. Although everyone enjoyed the bread service.

We went in 2016 with my sister-in-law’s family, and a couple of her kiddos are pretty shy too. They had the most fun at Teppan Edo and Rainforest Cafe. The food was definitely better at Teppan Edo, but the kids as so much fun at both that they were both worth it.

Beach Club hasn’t had tea in a couple of years.
OP stated they did Coral Reef and her daughter was over aquarium in five minutes.

OP I like the idea of the Grand Floridian Cafe.

I checked the Disney site and it is only available on certain dates. here is some info from their site:

The elegance of enjoying small bites in an elegant solarium with a warm cup of tea simply can’t be beat. I adore afternoon tea, and am delighted to share the introduction of Afternoon Tea at Solarium Gardens at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Available on select dates (currently February 11-14, February 18-21, March 24-29, May 5-8, June 16-19, September 1-5), guests have the choice of tea services:Reservations are now available and can be made by calling 407-WDW-DINE.

I second the tea at the GF. I try to go there just about every time I'm at Disney. My mama and I used to have tea and cookies once a month in our living room, my brothers weren't allowed in the room and Mama would use the good dishes and make it special for just us. After I got grown and we started taking my son to WDW, we stayed at GF and she and had tea there. I was very special for us and I still go just for that memory.

That post is a couple years old. I don't see anything in the dining options for tea at BC

I'm going with DD12 in November. She specifically requested HDDR after seeing a short video on Youtube. We are also doing BOG dinner, HEA dessert party and MVMCP. Another favorite we are doing is Via Napoli.

CG dinner was on my list but it doesn't fit into our schedule. I plan on doing Yachtsman but since we are in the Epcot area I'm just going to do a same day ADR once there.

I would suggest Boma also. It is a fun buffet and has more interesting foods as well as plenty of foods for non adventurous eaters and a kids food area.
Via Napoli is another fun restaurant with good pizza. Can be on the noisy side.

The tradition for my son and I for our "special dinner" is Yachtsman, but he was 7 before he acquired his love for steak, at 4 he was ordering mac 'n cheese there and it made me cringe lol. He's now 10 and all he talks about whenever steak is on his plate is how much he loves Yachtsman.

I really like the dessert party suggestion, that is definitely unique and memorable. If she likes Frozen, then the one at EPCOT would be a good choice because it also gets you a ride on FEA and saves you a tier 1 fastpass.

Hi there, my daughter is 4 and we did something very similar in November @ GF and she still talks about it. I made a reservation for princess pkg @ salon which included nails and hair. They did an amazing job w/ her by the way. We then enjoyed early dinner @ GFC. I surprised her at the end of dinner w/ a mini cake I had designed there @ GF. They brought it out at the end of dinner and u would’ve thought she won the lottery.., she was absolutely thrilled! We shared cake and chit chatted about her favorite things Disney while I had coffee. We finished up dinner and made our way to tables to watch fireworks @ MK (they pipe in music) and ended night w/ water pageant. It was a fantastic evening and would not have changed anything. I hope this helps.

You guys have just about convinced me to do tea. I assumed it was cheesy and not worth the price but so many of you love it. My daughter loves setting up her tea set for us to join her and she gets excited when I put real cookies on the saucers. I will definitely check on this tomorrow.

The afternoon tea isn’t cheesy at all! It’s more classic/elegant. There is also the more child/character oriented princess tea.

The afternoon tea has tea, sandwiches, scones served with clotted cream, jam, and lemon curd (I will go far out of my way for any amount of lemon curd: it’s my favorite), and the like. For kids I believe they also have the option to have chocolate milk in a teapot if they don’t like tea. It’s a great opportunity to get a little dolled up and have a great time, while still just being the two of you. If she does tea parties at home, I’d say it’s a no brainer!

I would love to bring my daughter to princess tea n September. I’m not so sure I can talk myself into paying the price, quiet $$$.

It is expensive, however it really is nice if you can justify the cost. I took my DGD, and I loved it. SHe however, was a bit overwhelmed. I failed to recognize her personality at that age and placed her in an uncomfortable situation. Now I suggest other options such as the GFC or the afternoon tea in the Grand so people can see that it is possible to have a lovely graceful atmosphere if they do not want to go to the Princess tea.

I would love to do the tea with DD but with my 12 year old I think it can be hit or miss. It really will depend on her mood. If she's in her relaxing mode she'll love it. If she's itching to get to a park or extremely hungry she's not going to want any parts of it. I think I will talk to her about it and see if it's something she would enjoy. It is something I've always wanted to do.

Would you mind saying what made her uncomfortable? My daughter is so crazy and outgoing at home but the second anyone else talks to her she crawls into her shell. And what do you mean by afternoon tea at the Grand? I thought there was only one tea event and that was the princess one.

We've done the tea with just a group of adults and had a great time! Definitely not cheesy IMO

Afternoon tea is a lovely tea service that's available with a tiered menu of prixfixe options, such as just tea and dessert or tea with sandwiches, dessert, and champagne. It's very charming and not at all intimidating.

The princess tea is a character event with a very expensive price tag that includes apple juicy, kid-friendly tea accompaniments, and a set of princess gifts. It's geared toward kids, although adults can attend (without getting the princess gifts).

They're both held in the tea room at the Grand Floridian. I'm sure there are plenty who would love the princess tea, but I'd recommend the regular afternoon tea service instead.
