Help me decide on a resort...BC or monorail?

DH and I are planning our first trip with children for October 2008. We've stayed at BC and love it. We'd love to stay there again, but wonder if we'll wish we had booked a monorail resort. We'll have a rental car while we are there and our children will be 17 months. Am I crazy to stay with our favorite BC or do we 'need' a monorail?

Thanks!

If you plan to spend more time at the Magic Kingdom then any Monorail Resort would be good, because with young kids it makes things so much easier. However if you plan to spend more time at Epcot and Hollywood Studios, maybe you should stick with the Beach Club.

You are never "crazy" to stay where you love.!! We love the Beach Club and the Epcot Resorts area. For us (all adults now) it is just perfect.
However you say your "children" will be 17 months, so I am assuming you have at least twins, am I correct? That means at least 2 strollers, right?
I think for this next trip a Monorail resort may be the better solution. Although I love the BC, I stayed at the Poly with DS and my grandchildren last April. We did visit every park, although we spent more time in the MK than the others. The convenience of the Monorail with little ones can not be overstated. The ability to wheel a stroller right on the Monorail with your little one in it is invaluable.
I loved the Poly too. I would go back in a heartbeat. We would be at the Park at rope drop, and ready to return to the room for a nap followed by a swim, early each afternoon. Then we would change and head out again to a Park and/or to dinner. It was perfect!
Good Luck with your decision.

I would stay at a monorail resort. Especially with children as young as yours. If you want to take the monorail to MK or Epcot, all you have to do is load the little ones up in the stroller, and get on board. No pesky folding/unfolding of the strollers. Plus if your little ones like to swim, it is much easier to keep an eye on them at say, the Poly pool, then Storm Along Bay. And I think you would all enjoy being able to see the Electrical Water Pagent float by at night too. Very cute!

We actually did a split stay a couple of years ago between the Poly and the Beach Club. And even the kids agreed, we should have just stayed at the Poly. Every time the Beach Club bus went by the Poly, they waved at it.

Remember you can walk to 2 parks from the BC.

For Oct we stay at Epcot resorts so we can be closer to the F&W!!!

Being that you will have little ones, then my assumption is that the Magic Kingdom would be the main attraction. That being the case, then the Monorail obviously has its benefits. If your kids were older, then I would probably say BC, especially since its my favorite resort:) If you plan on hitting all 4 parks equally, however, then I would say that there really isnt one winner....

I agree with the others above to choose your resort based on the parks you will frequent the most, but I just wanted to post here because I also have twins and we took them to WDW when they were 18 months old. So I can comment from experience. You will see by my sig that we love the Epcot resorts, with BC being our favorite. Now all kids are different, so keep in mind this is just how it was with our girls, but my girls didn't care which park they went to at that age. So those were the days we loved being at BC. We loved to let the girls walk/run off steam in that whole boardwalk area around the lake. It was so quiet and peaceful during the day that DH and I could have a drink while we slowly walked around that loop and let the girls laugh and walk and have some fun without all the crowds around. However, once they reached around age 3, maybe closer to 4, they discovered they love the rides at MK and so we started to rotate trips between our favorite Epcot resorts and also the monorail resorts. YES, it's totally easy to roll a double stroller on and off the monorail and extremely convenient to stay at a monorail resort for that reason. So....having said all that, I still do recommend you choose the resort based on the park(s). And from personal experience, BC was the right decision for us. Good luck and have fun! That age was so precious in Disney!!

Thanks! That would have made me crazy! Now I can think about my answer to the question.

I think the pool at the BC with the sandy area is so wonderful for kids your age. Are your twins water babies? If so, I'd vote for the BC. It's true that it's harder to watch them in SAB but your kids are little enough- I didn't have a problem watching my kids at that age there. Once they are more adventurous a pool that size is a whole lot of work! I liked the earlier poster's comment about walking the Boardwalk. We loved that too.

I'd suggest the Contemporary resort. You have the luxury of walking to the Magic Kingdom, where I'm assuming you'll probably be spending most of your time, and it's the first monorail stop "home" from the MK. The other monorail resorts are great as well, our personal favorite is GF, but our girls are older now. We have stayed at the YC three times now, and enjoy it, but the monorail line is wonderful for little ones, you can hop on and ride to give a young child a look at different scenery, you can see Wishes from your resort, you get the Electric Water Pagent nightly on Bay Lake.

Those reasons are a good example why the Contemporary is a great Resort to stay at with young kids.
