My test is: "Does President Firstname Lastname sound good?" That goes for both boys and girls. Although I have to admit that the name "Condoleezza" hasn't seemed to slow Dr. Rice down too much!

I like that test! But now I feel like a bad parent...here you were picking out names for when your child becomes President, and I was just picking out names for when my kids get old!!!! Maybe I should raise my expectations a bit?!? LOL!

I really like the name Isabella but because it is sooo popular right now, I wouldn't use it for a new baby.

Looking at the name Anabelle though, I think its a beautiful alternative, It just made my possibilities list. (12 weeks to go and no name for my baby girl yet).

Shannon, read my post above, I guess I need to raise my expectations too....makes it look like I'm just happy if she's not a stripper! :rotfl2:

(no offense to any Dis'ers who are strippers!)

No offense to anyone, but I just can't imagine the name Tiffany, for example, on an older woman!

I don't think this argument holds much weight. My grandmother's name is Mildred (Millie for short), which was very 'trendy' when she was a little girl. I'm sure people were thinking I can't picture a Grandmother 'Millie' in the 1920's, but it sure fits her now! Times change, names change - In 50 years there will be lots of Grandmothers named Britney, Tiffany, Madison, etc.

Don't worry too much about the Top 20 lists. Now a days there are so many names that there's not as many who have a Top 20 name. Unlike the 1950's where like 80% of kids had Top 20 names. If you're very concerned about it, though, you may want to check the local birth records. Some areas have different popular names than what's on the national lists.

I'm surprised how many people like the name Paige :confused3 . It's not my style at all, but I guess people like it.

My neice is Paige Elisabeth and I love that name, so pretty

Her sister is Maya Katharine...I think my DB and DSIL chose some cute names :goodvibes

Good point - I hadn't thought about it from that angle. But, I still prefer names that are classic, timeless type names. My DDs are named after two of my great-grandmothers. Their names fit just as well now as they did in the 1800s, without sounding either too trendy or too "old". Again, just my opinion - picking out names is obviously a very personal thing.

I love the name Lindsey Ruth. I think it's nice to have a more classic family name as the middle name!

Ooohh - I love all the names!

Here's my take:

Isabella is WAY too popular.. (no matter how pretty it is).

Anabelle is really pretty, but kind of "dainty".

Paige is really pretty. I just think it's sharp?

Gwenyth - as pretty as the name is, I just can only picture a 30 year old blond actress

Amelia - is so pretty and sweet. Love it.

Margaret (Maggie) has been at the top of my list forever!! So sweet!

Lindsay Ruth - I love this combination. I think it sounds great with your last name (given the clues you gave, I pretended it was Barnaby!)

Lorelai Grace - adorable..

So - I voted for Lorelai!

Congrats on the baby!!!!

Thanks for all your help and ideas!

Selfishly bumping to the top!

I love all your names (including Ruth) except for Lorelei, because it always reminds me of the Siren song. Just me, but I don't think I could name my daughter after somebody that lures people to their deaths :goodvibes

According to German legend, there was once a beautiful young maiden, named Lorelei, who threw herself headlong into the river in despair over a faithless lover. Upon her death she was transformed into a siren and could from that time on be heard singing on a rock along the Rhine River, near St. Goar. Her hypnotic music lured sailors to their death. The legend is based on an echoing rock with that name near Sankt Goarshausen, Germany.

Amelia and Margaret are my two favorites. My niece watches Princess Diaries all the time and I love the nickname Amelia has in that movie - Mia. A friend has a daughter Amelia - they call her Millie. I have also heard Molly as a popular nickname for Amelia.

Margaret is another favorite - and almost voted for it instead of Amelia. Meg or Maggie is trendy for a young girl, but Margaret is formal enough for adulthood.

And any of your names go together well. Amelia Margaret, Margaret Amelia, Amelia Paige, Margaret Paige, Amelia Ruth, Margaret Ruth, etc.

Out of all your names I picked Margaret & Lindsay. I like Margaret because it has so many nicknames. I also think it's a name that you can be of any age and career.

I had a very hard time with my 2 DD names also. My younger I wanted Elizabeth ( many nicknames) but my DH liked Danielle better. So we picked Danielle Elizabeth. And guess what name she likes better- Elizabeth!
Last year she had 6 Danielles in the 5th grade!

I picked Isabella.
My daughter's name is Chloe. She is the only Chloe in the school of 650 kids. Not very common.

I voted for Paige! I have always loved that name.....I tried to convince my daughter into that name for my granddaughter ~ but I lost out! :confused3

Paige Olivia is my vote!

Olivia Grace is another that I have always loved!
