I can go the third week of August this year, or I can wait and go the second week of June 2008. What would you do? The crowds? Is there much difference in crowd size between the two dates? When would the weather be better, of course I know it will be hotter in August, but which month would I be likely to see the most rain? Oh and I will definitely be staying on site no matter what date I choose.

i might be off target with this question but can say i have been at universal around june 18th before for days and also in august around the 23 for days after.

for me, there was more rain in june when i went than august and hotter in august.
but, less crowds in august.

the parks are open to 10 in june i believe. not sure the date they start closing earlier in august. would think they would still be on the summer hours in the third week. have to check the UO calendar for hours to answer that one.

if it would be my trip, i would take the dates when the kids go back to school so it would not be as crowded. crowds give me the willies.........

Either time the schools will more than likely be off, I'd love to go when school is going on, but we will have three kids with us, one in 7th grade, one in 5th and one in 2nd. No way could the 7th and 5th miss a week of school, and since it will be about a 12 hour drive, we definitely want to stay at least four days, and add two more days for driving. So either time I know will be crowded, and I HATE crowds, but there is no way around that part I'm afraid.

jewell, didn't realize you would have school age kids with.
the second week in june would have some crowds but not as many as july would have.

orlando schools go back on august 20. most schools are about to go back in session then also. the parks start closing at 7pm around that time also.

how late in august are you thinking?
if it is 20th, then you should not have large crowds then. i know the last week is dead, or was when i was there.

if your children don't go back to school until a week after the 20th , that might be doable. for me, it would be hectic as the week before my kids returned to school i was always so busy getting things organized for them for the start of school.

if you plan to stay on site, book something now if you want to go in june.
you can always modify the rates if they drop / aaa for example.

someone posted on another thread that they booked at hrh and it was filling up for june or july.

I have a 7th, 5th, and 1st grader. I understand about the not missing school thing. My 7th and 5th are upset about even missing a half day this Friday because we are leaving for US (who's children are these!!!???).

I have not been to Disney/US in August, but my vote would be the 3rd week in August. Yes, it will be hot. Friends of our went the last week in August and said crowds were minimal. Hold out until the last week before your school starts.

Either way, have fun. It's vacation!
