Help me convince DH about getting a newer car

I am dreading this summer with my 2002 trailblazer. I love it, but the gas! I have looked at Honda Accords and Saturn Vue's on my own (not with a salesguy--online, and in the lot) but DH is adamant that I did the research on the trailblazer and I am stuck with it--we only owe 2 more years.
If I wait much longer no one will trade the thing in--it's in good shape and we have replaced brakes and tires in the last 6 months, plus put in a car starter, but when we looked in the fall the one dealer said they didn't want to trade in the SUV and "you'd be better off selling it yourself"--but then we had it in the paper for a week and not one call.
My needs aren't extravagant, I would be happy with a 4 cylinder accord (although I'd like a nice stereo). I test drove a Vue in the fall, and that was a 6 cylinder, but right now I could get 0% financing on a 4 banger.
His argument, besides only owing 2 years on my truck now, is that I don't take care of my vehicles. Well to be honest I do kind of "live" in it--for God's sake, I'm driving kids hither and yon all of the time and I have a 25 min. drive to work--but I clean it up and it cleans up very well. I get regular oil changes.
Yes I did the research on trailblazer and I wanted one in 2003--but who knew gas would go to almost $3 a gallon??? Now I'm looking for some decent mileage.

DH & I have talked about this and the decent mileage will not make up for the loss you will take on both cars (SUV loss & new car loss). Not too mention you will have another extended car payment.

As far as ANY SUV, can't sell it to save your life. I wish I could help you, but I can't. We have tried to ditch our Yukon, for 2 years now.

Wish I had some advice- I'm still trying to figure out how to replace my 1997 Caravan! Nothing wrong with it (darn it), but you can imagine after almost 10 years I'm pretty bored with it  .
