"Help me choose a paint color" picture thread

Ooo, that darker shade is exactly what I've been thinking of! I love it! I'll have to get that paint chip.

I saw your pictures on the budget board granite thread, and your colors are very very nice. Very rich and warm.

I saw that thread after I'd started this thread, and the pics you posted were just what i was thinking of for this thread. It really helps to see colors in a real house. Excellent job on your color choices.

elizke - here are 2 shades of brown that might work for you - I have the darker in my foyer & the lighter in the family room.

It is Sherwin Williams Haycock to the right going down the front stairs, Sherwin Williams Latte to the left going down the back stairs.

I meant to quote. The darker shade, Haycock? is what I'm interested in.

I have my entire bottom stairs painted this yellow. I use cranberry accents. It is called Melted Butter by Behr. I have rounded corners so we have no stopping point. My entryway is 22 ft and I have 12 ft ceilings. We painted ourselves using an extension paint pole.

Here is the entryway:

We used a color called Autumn Goard by Behr in my dh's study. I have not taken a pic yet but it is a very pretty color. I will try and take a picture and post it later. The color is not orange or gold but something in between. He has olive/sagey colored drapes with a paisley topper. We get compliments all the time.

Very nice bright color. So happy and refreshing. Looks great.

I am thinking of something alittle darker probably though, so I would love to see the study!

I don't know how to post pictures but I have a great color for you to consider. It is a Benjamin Moore color called Berkshire Beige (it is either in their Historical or American color area). It is a medium shade of beige that can have a slight green tint depending on the lighting. You don't see any green under natural light. You sound like you have the same problem that we had. We have a two story foyer that connects with both the living room and a two story family room. It took me over a year to find just the right shade that would not be too dark but that would give some depth to our walls. There is so much wall space that I had to love the color and it had to go with a lot of things.

Wait you confused me - you said you liked the darker brown, then said you liked the Latte - the Latte is the lighter of the 2, the Haycock is the darker. Maybe I said it backwards. I LOVE the Haycock, I wish I would have done the whole thing in that. It's not really chocolate, it has a very warm tone to it, yet not gold. Your room is big enough & high enough to pull off a darker color for sure. Let me see if I have any other pics of when we painted those areas...

Someone else mentioned the Benjamin Moore Historical colors - I've used 2 golds (one was called Wilmington tan but it was more yellow-ish, and the other was Decatur Buff -a muted yellow gold) and a deep reddish brown called Hodley Red, I love their colors!

Here's another shot of the Sherwin Williams Latte, the lighter of the 2 from the other pic. Beyond in the breakfast room is one of the Benjamin Moore golds/tans - Wilmington Tan...it's the most yellow-ish gold I used, but definitely not yellow.

THANK YOU! I just found my new living room and dining room colors! Did you match that up with a white/white or an offwhite for the trim?

Well now is a good time to learn how to post pics don'tcha think? :goodvibes

I am trying to get something that has a green tint to it. And I so agree about depth and darkness! That's my problem too. Some rooms are fine dark, others light, but this one is just harder. I want a deep cozy color but I'm so afraid of it ending up being too dark.

I would love to see pics, but thanks for the color name. I have so may Benjamin Moore chips may I even have it already...

He he, I realized I made a mistake when reading your first post and went back and changed mine, now I see your post of confusion. It's definitely the darker shade I love, the Haycock!

I love Benjamin Moore colors too. The only thing painted so far in the house is the kitchen, Benjamin Moore Rosy Apple....

You can see how the color will have to be complimentary to the kitchen too.

This is the Autumn Goard I was telling you about. I was not able to get a good picture because it is getting dark and the light was bright. The actual color is not quiet as dark as these pictures show.

That's very nice. It's very Tuscan and warm. It would definitely bring out the lighter color in my drapes. Thanks so much for posting. Very helpful!

#1HockeyMom - we have bright white trim everywhere. It really pops. I chose those 2 (Haycock & Latte from Sherwin Williams) because they were on the same color card, 2 shades apart, so I figured they would go well together, and they do. I'm very happy with them!

We've been searching for the right "coffee" colors. It is so hard seeing them on a card v the giant wall! Your house and color choices look awesome. I am saving this thread to show DH and writing the colors down right now!

Close-up of the wall finish, which was very subtle and done with Walmart grocery bags......

Normally I don't like faux finishes, but this is REALLY nice! :thumbsup2 Very subtle. :)

I love the Autumn Gourd!! Is that Benjamin Moore? Did you all see my Campbell's Tomato Soup room on the other thread? Ummm.....not exactly what I had planned but I'm soooo sick of painting that it is going to stay that way for awhile. The Autumn Gourd may work for me when I decide to re-paint. I love that BM red you have in the kitchen. I have 3 reds in the house (yes 3 reds, 4 golds, 2 tans/browns, the Campbell's Tomato Soup orange which was intended to be terra cotta, a blue/grey & a green. ) I still have about 6 rooms to do so I'll be hanging on this thread awhile!

I did see the orange, and I really like it. Very striking with the white trim. Feel free to repost more house photos here!

It actually looks nice when it's dim, but when the sun shines in there it lights up like a basketball!

There's a thread on the Budget Board titled "OT granite countertops" that we were posting granite pics on, then it got sidetracked into tile & paint pics...lots of nice ideas over there too.
