Help - May Have To Cancel Upcoming Reservation

Hello-

My family has a vacation planned for January 10-17 at VWL. We may have to cancel this trip because of my husband's upcoming school schedule. We used 65 points from our 2009 use year and borrowed from 2010 to make up the rest. I know that if I cancel, I can still bank 2010's points, but since I am within my four month window for 2009 points (we have a Feb UY), what would happen to my 2009 points? This is the first time I've had to possibly cancel a reservation like this...I'm so confused!

You need to contact Member Services for the correct answer. I was under the impression that borrowed points cannot be returned but I am as confused about this as much (or perhaps more) than you are.

Yikes! I agree you should call member services but unfortunately borrowing can't be undone. I also believe that mean borrowed points can NOT be banked back to their original use year. And with the 2009 banking windows having passed (what is your use year just to confirm?) you probably can't bank those either. Sounds like you are unfortunately in the worst case scenario of both the dangers of borrowing and traveling toward the end of your use.

You may want to try and rent your ressie out (rather than cancel it) to someone else and save the case for a future trip. I think this board allows you to post one within 30 days of the arrival date...

So you borrowed Feb. 2010 points for a January 2010 ressie. That means those borrowed points are now 2009 points and will expire on Jan. 31, 2010. If you know FOR SURE now that you can't use the ressie, I'd cancel now and try to make a rental. Either way, all the points for the ressie will be lost to you, since they are for the end of your use year. Remember that those 2010 points are no longer 2010 points, but became 2009 points when you borrowed them.

I agree - all the points would have to be used by January 31, 2010. It's too late to bank 2009 and 2010 can't be "unborrowed".

Well, poop...but I had a feeling that's what would happen. Worse comes to worst, DS and I can go down by ourselves...
