OK - I'm trying to totally change our reservations for next year with the announcement of the new cruise deal. If I used the developer points for GC in March 2009, those points are not available to transfer back to a DVC stay in WDW for March 2009? MS told me I can use them for either a cruise or a hotel resort stay. Is that right?

If I cancel a reservation with developer points at GC - is the only place I can "re-use" those points at GC? That's what I'm being told but they are double checking?

Yes they are right, because you traded them into the Disney Collection part of the program.
Since the Dev. Points were restricted to GCH, you cant use them at any of the other Dis Collection Resorts.

You cant use them for II trades, unless you plan on going before the end of the year because DVC no longer has a contract with II after Jan 1 2009.

You cant use them at SSR because they are now Reservation Points and those come with another slew of restrictions

The Developer Point Agreement was strictly worded with lots of restrictions on their use. The II switch really threw a monkey wrench in the use of DP's for exchanging. I would pursue this option because when you purchased that is what they offered and DVC should honor the use of DP's for trading into II or RCI.

Hope you get some extra pixie dust and MS can help you use your points.

I would think it wouldn't just be GCH but also PP and DH, but it would have to be Disneyland. The fact that II isn't an option anymore could possibly be complained about so that they allow something else, but I wouldn't count on it.

They can't be used for the World Passport Collection since they are now "Reservation" points and those can't be used for an II exchange (since a DVC reservation would need to be made for the exchange). Thru the end of this month, DVC members may still search for II trades even in 2009 so that is not the issue but the current "reservation" status means they cannot be used for anything outside of the Disney Collection and that was limited (by definition) to only DL hotels.

"Reservation" points cannot be used for World Passport options whether they were Developer Points or regular DVC points.

Sorry you need to cancel.

They are now reservation points meaning you can't use them for a DVC villa. And since they are developer points, they have other rules. So you can't use them for SSR (not DVC points). You can use them for a hotel at DL (and you won't have to pay the $95 fee) or you might be able to use them at a hotel at WDW (but you would have to pay the $95 fee). Or you could use them on the cruise.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm still trying to figure the logistics on everything. I may have set a record for calls into MS today. Each time I called, I got a different answer. One of the reps moved my reservation to SSR, then called me back to say he couldn't do that. The biggest question is whether or not we will be able to bank those points into RCI. They don't know the answer to that and won't until Jan. 2 (or at least that's what they told me). So I will just continue trying to figure out - California or Florida?
