Help! iPod Touch, Nano, Shuffle

My older two have the Itouch and really like it a great deal.

One feature not always mentioned with the touch (heck, I did not know this until after we bought one for my first son), there is an ap you can download (and my son found it somewhere actually for free) that will allow you to text from the touch free of charge any where there is internet acess. If you have a teen or soon to be teen, that can be a huge benefit.

The iPad is considered a "tablet" computer. Just a smaller version of a lap top.

In terms of functionality, it is much more like an iPhone or iPod touch. It has no physical keyboard. It has no USB port. It has no CD drive. You do not install traditional software; you download apps. I'm not knocking the iPad, I think it's fantastic. But if you want it to do what a laptop does, you're going to be disappointed.

I would go for the touch. I have one, as does my 12 year old. They are AWESOME! I am a classroom teacher, and have just received a grant where we will use them in the classroom (each child will have one to use) ... they are soooo many educational apps out there. I had always thought they were a high-priced music player until I went to a teacher workshop on them. I went out that night and bought one! There is a lot you can do with them!

I have both an 11 and 8 year old, and although I think they are behind their friends technology wise, I also know they are way ahead of me!

They will mostly use the device for games and music. We do have wireless INET though, so that might be something to think about. (Now I have to figure out all of the parental controls too).
