my bf and i are going to disney in may and i am looking for ideas on places to eat. we arent interested in anything too fancy or expensive. Also i dont really like having to be in a certain place at a certain time while on vacation, so just thinking about ADR's is overwhelming to me. so i guess what im looking for are some good CS places with yummy food and nice romantic atmosphere thats not too crowded and crazy. that exsists right???? thanks for you help :)

PS- i looooove visiting the poly for dinner and fireworks on the beach but o'hana was already booked for the night i needed....back up plan???

Something that is really fun is to eat around the world in epcot. You can share 1 snack with your party from each country. It will be a great way to fill up and a fun way to try new foods.

Im sorry I read wrong. I think the Epcot idea is really good.
Kona's Cafe is great. My husband favorite counter service had to be Flame Tree BBQ. The food a great.

Captain Cooks at the Poly has great counter service, I love their Aloha Pork Sandwich! You can go there for a late dinner, then sit at the Poly beach and watch fireworks.

as a backup plan to 'ohana, other than CS, you can try Kona... good food, nice light atmosphere and fireworks on the beach w/a drink from the bar...

i agree w/the epcot world showcase CS suggestions... when i went w/a friend (just two adults, no kids) we enjoyed a few CS meals and snacks from various countries, one at a time, sharing as we toured...

another leisurely CS option would be resort food courts mid-day as they are rarely crowded when most guests are at the parks... esp CSR as it is a unique foodcourt w/good food and decent service... certainly more than your average CS meal...

as far as TS meals w/out killing yourselves to be on time you might want to try some of the less popular places that would not penalize you for being early or late to your ADR or might even take a walk-up such as The Plaza in MK, San Angel or Nine Dragons in Epcot, Brown Derby in DHS (not too expensive if you share a big salad and a main course, although on the DDP it would be 2 credits/person), and definitely Y&Y in AK...

I agree! This is a really great idea! My husband and I love to enjoy the beautiful grounds of the Polynesian.

We also like to go to Boulangerie Patisserie before Illuminations for a little something then watch the show. :goodvibes

the world showcase is a great idea. sometimes i don't get an actual meal, but i pick and choose snacks from the different countries...a sandwich from norway, a napolean from france and the list can go on and on...

also agree with captain cooks at the poly...we have enjoyed breakfast and lunch/dinner there and enjoyed our meals. going to CS places at deluxe resorts is usually a good idea since they the dining areas aren't as large so it is not as crowded...contempo cafe also has good food.

AK-Flame Tree BBQ, just take your trays way down by the river. Quite and can be romantic as few people bother to wander that far.

Epcot- the bakery in Norway has tasty sandwiches. the little patio used to be nice and quite, but now that the statue is near it is part of a Kim Possible mission, it is not so peaceful

HS-take a boat to a resort. No outstanding QS here IMHO. some people like Starring Rolls. Not my thing.

MK-NOT COSMIC RAYS! Now, we love it. But it is loud and crowded, always. Sonny Eclipse keeps my DS entertained, but it is not the place I would choose if it were just me and DH. Pinocchio's used to be good if you went upstairs. Also Columbia Harbor House can be quiet and romantic.

Have a great time.

I agree with the Epcot showcase idea. There's so much to eat there, you can find something for even the pickiest eater. England has some really good fish and chips if you're into that. If you like moroccan food (humus, falafel, chicken, etc) the Tangierine Cafe is very very good. It's a must-do for us every year. The french patisserie is delicious too! Also, we did ESPN at the Boardwalk a couple of nights...my husband got his sports fix, and they had decent food, and the Boardwalk has a great nightlife for after dinner. Just an idea!

Columbia Harbour House at MK has great food. There is a second floor dining room that most people don't know about. You can sit and look out the window at the people passing below. As there are very few people there you could consider this a romantic spot. Also most of the counter service meals are quite large and if you aren't big eaters you could share some of your meals to keep your cost down.

Captain Cook's or the Kona Cafe sushi bar at the Poly.
Columbia Harbour House (upstairs for dining) at MK.
Tangierine Cafe (Morocco) in Epcot (walk around and look for an out-of-the-way table, don't sit right near the counter). Also, England has a little seating section to the right of the CS counter that overlooks the lagoon, it's nice if you can get a table there.
Flame Tree BBQ at AK has seating that overlooks the lake with a nice view of Everest.
Can't think of anything cheap and romantic at DHS, sorry. Now that I think about it, there's nothing really romantic about this park to us.

I recommend you eat at "off" times (lunch before 11:30, dinner before 5 or after 9). You will encounter smaller crowds, which lends itself to more "romance."

Enjoy!

Hmmm....

I'm sure I'll repeat some of the great suggestions above, but then you'll know that they are popular choices!

MK: dine upstairs at Columbia Harbor House
Epcot:
1. sit on a bench and share a pretzel and beer from Germany's Sommerfest
2. enjoy the outdoor garden seating with a waterfall at Yakitori House in Japan
3. Tangierine Cafe in Morocco is my favorite CS in all of WDW! Sitting on the patio outside of the restaurant, having some great food, and watching everyone walk by is very relaxing.
DHS: The only place I can think of that even comes close to your requirements would be Starring Rolls. I've never had the sandwiches, but the cupcakes are really good. I would be tempted to take a boat over to Beach Club and share a milkshake and a burger at Beaches & Cream instead.
AK: Flame Tree has good food in a beautiful setting.

Our favorite in-park Counter Services are Columbia Harbour House in the MK and Tangerine Cafe in Epcot. Captain Cooks at the Poly and Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary are pretty good too. The best is Wolfgang Puck Express in DTD though.

thanks everyone for the wonderful suggestions, we will def be trying some of those! However being that my bf runs the "sticky fingers rib house" flame tree will not be on the list :( also i havent been to capt cooks in a very long time, what else is good besides the bbq sandwich??? The menu at Kona sounds good but from looking at the pictures i wouldnt describe it as "romantic" am i right?

thanks again! xoxo

Well, the phrases "romantic atmosphere" and "counter service" do not often occur in the same sentence when it comes to the Disney restaurants, I've found. Kona Cafe is a table service restaurant, but I would say it is one of the less romantic TS restaurants that doesn't involve giant anthropomorphic animals greeting you at the table. The romantic part for Kona, I think, comes from taking a stroll around the grounds of the Polynesian after you are done eating.

That said, I think Tangerine Cafe in Epcot can be a romantic spot, as the PP said, as long as you find a good spot to sit. Good luck with your trip and with your dining choices!
