Help...I'm so confused!

I have rented points before from a DVC member for the BW and had no problems or confusion. Now I need to rent again, but I am confused about the difference between renting 'reservation points' and DVC points.

Can someone clarify for me?

If someone books a non-DVC resort and then cancels, they can no longer use those points to book a DVC resort -- they are referred to as "reservation points" and can still be used for any non-DVC option -- cruise, concierge, WDW resorts, etc.

If you are looking to rent DVC accomodations, you don't want "reservation points".

I'm not sure where the question came up -- someone could be calling their points "reservation points" to differentiate from points that are up for a sale of membership.

"Reservation Points" are DVC points returned to the member's account from a cancelled, non-DVC reservation. They are valid points, but cannot be used for a reservation at a DVC resort. They may be used only for a reservation at a non-DVC option- like the Disney Cruise Line, Concierge Collection or Disney Collection (at any of the moderate or Deluxe WDW resorts).

If you are looking for a reservation at one of the non-DVC resorts at WDW, you may be able to find a rate lower than available thru CRO as long as the member is offering these points at a low enough rate. be sure to know what you could rent from Disney and then see what might be available thru a rental using these points.

regarding secox28, I have 256 "reservation points" I need to sell, how would I go about doing that since they are different than normal points? can I make a reservation in another name using the points( i.e. can I book a cruise for someone else using their name with the points and offer them a good deal, at this point i need to unload them)? thanks

Yes you can. You just can't book a DVC resort. Just list them on the rent/trade board for what they are and tell people what types of places you can rent with them. In the past, reservation points tended not to be worth as much as DVC points so be prepared for that. Good luck with them.
