Help Ignorant First Year Member?

Ok, I'm coming straight to the experts for help. I closed in May with a December use year. I went a little crazy, and used all my 2006 points and borrowed from 2007. So, I only have 166 points for 2007 left.
I want to do a May trip at VB and WDW-2 nights at VB and 3 at WDW, and I want to do a short October visit to catch the Halloween party. (never done it) I'll need 2 studios for the May trip and probably 2 studios for the October trip. (if the parentals want to come over) When I did the points calculation for those, I ended up with 6 points left. What can I do with those 6 points? Can I book a November or December trip, use the 6 and borrow from the next use year?

Are you saying that for 2 studios in May 2007 and 2 studios in October 2007 it would run you 160 points? Or are you talking about using your '06 points and the borrowed '07 points?

If you are talking about using your '06 and borrowed '07 points for these ressies, you can have them use the borrowed points first then your '06 allocation. Then, if you have 6 left over just bank them into your '07 UY.

Now if you are talking about using the 166 points you have left in your Dec '07 UY, you'll have to borrow those into your '06 UY to book the May and October '07 trips. If you don't need those last 6 points, just leave them in the '07 UY. (You could then borrow from '08 for a future trip or bank those 6 into your '08 UY later).

See why I'm so confused?? I have 166 points left in my 2006 UY. My planned May 2007 trip will use 112 points for VB and SSR. For October, if I use 2 studios at OKW it will take 48 points. That leaves me with 6 points in my 2006 use year.

Any points left over in a given use year can be banked into the next use year.

If you borrowed too many '07 points into '06 & now have 6 left over for '06, as I understand it, those cannot be banked.

Those 6 points can be banked into your 2007 use year for use in the same 12 months as your '07 points, but those banked points will not be able to be banked forward again into '08.

I Wish!! I was introduced to DVC by a friend last year, we spent a lovely week at VB. I was already a Disney fanatic, so after that visit I joined in May. I took my parent's to OKW in June. Then, I went to HHI with my friend a couple of weeks ago. Now, I'm looking forward to 2 visits Home to SSR in November and December.

SSR is my home resort. I just wanted to put all the resorts I'd visited in there as well, because I enjoyed them so much!

I'm confused at your reference to the years you've been using. If you have a December use year, you haven't received your 2006 points yet. You'll get them in December 2006. The trips you've been taking this year would have been 2005 points with points possibly borrowed from 2006. Are you mixing up years? (It's confusing with a December use year, because most of the travel on the points is probably done in the following calendar year.)

In any event, it sounds like you've got everything straight for your May '07 and October '07 trips. With the 6 points that are left over, there'll be a big difference as to whether you take your next trip in November '07 or December '07. It sounds as if you haven't decided yet.

If you're going in November '07, it will still be in your 2006 use year, which exires on November 30, 2007. You can use the six remaining 2006 points and borrow additional points from 2007 if needed. (When you make your reservations for May and October, let member services know you'll be using your points for future reservations and don't want them banked. They may want to do this for you automatically.)

If you're going in December, you'll need to bank those 6 points into 2007. Have member services bank them for you when you make your October trip reservation. (It's best to bank as soon as you know you won't need points, because there are banking deadlines that may prevent you from doing it if you wait too long.)

That's what I did. I used my 2005 points and 44 points from 2006.

That sounds like the best plan. I can book a night or two around Thanksgiving when I visit the parentals. (they live about an hour away in The Villages)
