Ok, we're lame and NEVER get out together without our 2 y.o. This is our big chance...WDW w/ the in-laws...built in babysitters :) I'd like to plan to do something but what?!

Help, I need ideas. We're talking about a Sat. night, Jan. 24. Thanks in advance for any help.

What about a night in Epcot in the WS? Time to just walk around and soak up the sights and sounds. Dinner in a nice quite place and then watch illumination and take the long way back to the resort.

I agree with Jordan's MOM; WS at EPCOT is nice at night, just to walk around and see everything. Any restaurant except France. . . and make your reservations NOW! For dessert, Beaver Tails at the Canadian Pavillion or anything in the bakery at Norway!

Have a great time!!!

We did the same thing when we traveled with my parents and ended up wandering Epcot and having dinner at Marrakesh. Kids don't tend to travel Epcot at the pace adults like, so it was nice to do a little poking in shops and such. Plus, my kids always are in bed before fireworks, so we got to see Illuminations.

We did talk about doing other things, Pleasure Island (we decided we weren't up for a late night ourselves) or DisneyQuest (we haven't been yet, and my husband loves video games - but that didn't really sound romantic). It would also be a nice night to go to a resort restaurant you might not normally bring your two year old to - Artist's Point, California Grill....Or maybe just grab counter food and ride all the big kids rides. We used a morning of Grandma's time to ride Mission Space last trip.

If it is going to be dinner, you do need to decide and make a PS.

My DH and I are having our date night on Friday 1/23. We are having dinner at Le Cellier in EPCOT and then watching Illuminations. My parents will have the kids for the evening.

I agree that you should make reservations right away...the trip is just around the corner...YEAH!!

Thank you so much, everyone, for all of the suggestions. I had never heard of DisneyQuest so that's one for me to look into. Thanks, too, for letting me know France's restaurant is a no go. I think we'll decide tonight when dh gets home from work so I can make the PS.

Thanks again!

The first trip DW and I took to WDW was alone and we went to the luau. During the show they recognized all the honeymooners and all the anniversary couples and we all got to do a nice little slow dance on stage - it was fun.

If you're looking for a great show you might try La Nouba - we went last spring and it was amazing (a bit pricey though).

Have a great date.

No ideas, just wanted to tell you I am JEALOUS! DH has been trying to get my mom to come with, but she refuses to fly. SIGH. Oh, well. Next time!

If you are staying on property, find out your e-ticket nights and use this as your date night. My DH and I LOVE going to an uncrowded park without the kids for a few hours. We run up and down the lines - riding as many "fast" rides as possible. Astro Orbiters is one of my favorites as we soar together over the park at night. We then head down Main Street USA for dessert. It makes you both feel like kids again, highly romantic and most of all FUN!

Another idea as a supplement or alternative to Epcot's World Showcase: Disney's BoardWalk, including dinner at the Flying Fish Cafe.

Great idea about E-ticket night. I called and they said they don't have any e nights when we're there in January. Boo hoo. That would have been a blast. Maybe next time. Thanks!

Jenn :)

Another idea would be to have dinner at Fulton's Crab House (which is fantastic) and then go dancing at Pleasure Island. We love 8 tracks with the retro music!

I agree on World Showcase, but I love the restaurant in France!

Didn't, however, like Italy at all. I love Italian food, so we spent the first night of our honeymoon there...SO disappointed. Barely touched my meal. Hubby thought his tasted like Chef Boyardee, not restaurant quality, especially pricey restaurant!! It's been 8.5 years ago, but it was so bad, we've never been back, and we've had 12 trips since then, plus "day trips" every 2 weeks for the 18 months we lived in Jacksonville....so about 50 chances to eat there and have always skipped it because of the memories. Wow...8.5 years is a long time. Maybe it's time to give them another go...

But my France experience was only a couple years ago...the food...MMMMMMMMMMMMM!! Service was "stiff" (not overly friendly) but attentive. Desserts.....YUMMMMMMMM!!

On our last trip we missed World Showcase completely because it held little for our small kids and we didn't have a baby-sitter, so if you like Epcot, this may be your best bet! And I'm a sucker for fireworks!! Great way to end the date!! But if you're still up for it, you could shop at Downtown Disney until 11pm after you leave Epcot...and get dessert if you skipped it at dinner :)

Maybe it was just me about the France restaurant. . . you are very correct about the "stiff" service. I would add "stuffy, almost to the point of arrogant" to that. Sorry.

I have not been to the Italy restaurant, but I like Chef Boy-Ar-Dee!

Also, forgot to mention that the German restaurant is good too, if you like German food.

Have fun!!!

I can second LeCellier in Canada at Epcot -- wonderful food, wonderful atmosphere!

Though I can't say how good it is (since we haven't done it yet), DH & I are having a 10th anniversary date while we are at WDW in November. After talking to lots of people & checking out lots of reviews, we've chosen to have dinner at Animal Kingdom Lodge (still tossing up between Jiko and Boma), then just checking out the resort and sitting at one of the observation decks, sipping wine and watching the animals. We still don't know if my parents will be able to make it up to babysit, but if not we're going to take the kids to Simba's Cubhouse (the childcare area at AKL) for a few hours while we have our dinner.

Sounds like a good time to me! We just stayed at AKL for the first time last month and loved it! Wished we had more time just to wander around the resort and explore! Ate breakfast and dinner at Boma, and loved both! Just so you know, since it's a buffet, Boma is a little louder (not loud, just not quiet) and less intimate. If you're up for that, great! If not, I'd head across the hall and do Jiko. It's a lot more intimate and quiet, and would give you the chance to have a more quiet, romantic evening! We didn't get to go there as we were short on time, and didn't want to deal with splitting checks with our party of 20, so we did the buffet...easy to split that one!! Food was excellent at Boma, and I hear it's just as good at Jiko! Have a great time! With any luck, we'll be spending our 10th anniversary (1.5 years away) the same way!!
