DD and I just got over a few days of having the stomach flu and I am so depressed because I actually gained a few pounds. How do you gain wait after having the stomach flu? I am following a low carb diet and it was very hard to stick with this with upset stomachs. The only thing that seemed to agree with my stomach for a few days was chicken noodle soup and, I hate to admit it crackers, which are both higher in carbs but I am still so upset that I gained after being sick. Then today when I was finally feeling better I found myself eating junky carb filled foods. I keep telling myself I'll do better tomorrow and hopefully I'll feel good enough to do WATP tape tomorrow.

Somebody give me a kick to get me back on track!

Cheryl

I bet you were eating canned chicken noodle soup (lots of salt) and crackers that were salty. It sounds like your extra weight is........WATER! A couple days of good low-carb eating will send that water packing and you'll be just fine!

The flu can be tough. I just get through it the best I can and then jump back on low-carb when I'm feeling better. I bet you will do the same. :sunny:

YES!! Its's the salt!! I would be eating perfectly for days and loosing steadily and I just craved a can of Campbells Chicken Noodle w/ saltines. The next morning I was up 2 pounds!! WHAT!!! Then I would just keep my water intake up and it was always gone the next day. Don't panic!! Just eat well and get back on your program. I just posted the "Failure" thread and got my 'kick' yesterday and I was feeling great and got back with it..closed the door on my pity party and I'm down 1.5 today! You can do it..you have all our support!!!

Awwwwwww, you don't need a kick. You need a  I'm glad that nasty stomach flu is almost gone.

I agree that sodium is most likely your culprit. Not only that, but with the stomach flu, I'll bet you haven't been able to drink much water. When you start to get de-hydrated, your body will hold on to as much fluid as it can to compensate. I'm sure that as soon as you can get back OP, you will see a whoosh!

Here's a little PD :wizard: so things will go better soon.

Besides the salt/water factor - I bet you did little else than lie on the couch/in bed. Hard to burn calories that way! Just think how you can start losing once you go back to low carb eating and some muscle movement. Don't let a small flucuation like that get you down.

When you're sick, your body knows best. If your body is telling you that it needs something, it's best to give it to your body. (That's not to be confused with some item of food calling your name.....:jester: )

As has been said, when you're sick, your body will retain fluids to compensate for any dehydration. Add to that the sodium from the soup and the crackers, and that would be why you're up 2 pounds.

Give your body time to heal, get back on program, and keep going. You're doing beautifully!!! :)

Aww, I'm glad that you are feeling better. :-) And, like all the other WISHers were saying, I'm sure it's only water-weight gain. Keep your chin up! *hugs* :sunny:

Thanks everyone for all the words of encouragement! That's what I love so much about this board! Yes it was canned soup and saltines so hopefully at least some of the weight gained is retained water. I really watched what I ate today so hopefully by tomorrow at least some of what I gained will be gone! Thanks again everyone!!
