HELP! I need airfare advice...

I'm not an experienced air-traveler at all. I just noticed that Delta has round-trip airfares available for May, 2002 at $114 (1 connection) STL -> MCO. I'll be traveling with my three kids, DD8, DD6, and DDalmost3, so a direct flight would be better.

Here's my question... Do I need to jump on the $114 rate offered by Delta, or should I hold out and see if TWA or Southwest offers a direct flight around the same cost? (My DH and I are taking our kids in November and I purchased our airline tickets back in January. We're leaving the day after Thanksgiving and I paid $216 (taxes included, direct flight) per ticket. I haven't seen the rate drop below that for that time period, yet.)

Any help or advice you can give me would be great!
Thanks!
Beth

We are going next June and the advice given me is that the most discounted flights won't be announced til around April 02, but I'm a PLANNER and will go crazy if I have to wait that long. My current game plan is that I'm watching the fares every two days or so plus I've signed up for a few farewatchers programs; when I can book my flights with good times for under $130 apiece, I'm buying! My dh said today (glad I did ask him) that he only wanted direct, nonstop flights so that's going to limit my flexibility, but with three kids changing planes or layovers would be a hassle. If I find flights for $114 even with a stop, I'll probably be nagging him about buying though. Many people have posted that the discounts seen this summer/fall (AP hotel rates and $75 RT airfares) are basically unheard of and who knows if they'll continue thru next year. I don't want to be stuck with no reservations and looking at a 15 hour drive!!

Good luck, Carla

I doubt seriously that you will run across a fare that low again before you travel. Delta was matching Southwest airlines recent sale, which had some unheard of prices. If TWA hasn't matched by now, they probably won't.

If you can get a $114 flight round trip - buy it. You probably will not get much lower than that!

Hi Beth!

I'm from St. Louis too. I would jump on that $114 fare because I doubt that you will ever see a fare that low on TWA. A couple of weeks ago it was $148 roundtrip from STL to MCO on TWA and that was lowest I have ever seen it. We have flown on Delta a couple of times to MCO but you always have to change planes in Cincinatti or Atlanta, but for $114 it is worth it!
