Help I need a new laptop and do not want

i recently bought a Asus from Best Buy for $450. Core i5 processor, 4gb ram, dvd-rw/cd-rw, sd card reader. It works great for the price. I also wanted to add I use this for surfing the internet while watching hulu or using basic word processing programs. I don't play games so I can't comment on that, but for my purposes its a great laptop.

It's well worth it to spend just over $1000 and get a MacBook Pro. The build quality is so superior to PC's- you do get what you pay for with computers, especially laptops.

I think it would be more difficult to say you absolutely wanted to pay over $1000 for a laptop. The only way I can figure out to get a laptop for over $1000 is to use my company discount I get with Dell because my fantastic discount seems to just add $30 to the price anyone can get straight off the Dell website.

I think it would be pretty hard to have to spend $1000 on a laptop. What do you need it for. As others have said, you can probably get one for about $500 that will work for your needs.

my son is in IT and he always buys ASUS. We just purchased 2 new ones (Asus) and we are happy with them. They were less than $500---same model as Lisa above bought.

It's hard to give ideas without knowing what you need it for. My husband needs certain specs to run Autocad. The program is a beast and slows down some machines. He went with a high end (at the time) HP with a great dedicated video card and still managed to come in under 1000 with a sale. That was a pretty top of the line laptop at the time.
Then came boxing day and we found a ridiculous sale on an ASUS that had very similar specs for dd. Video card wasn't dedicated or as good, and a few other things weren't as good.. but it was a solid machine. And we spent less than 500. All the employees were buying them as well. We've been really happy with it.

You can buy any laptop with wifi for that.

Target has a Compaq for sale this week for $233.

Key things to look for:

i3 or i5 processor. The ones with 4 numbers are the newer ones (i.e. 5600 instead of 560 for example.)

4GB RAM.

Hard drive... 250-500gb would do just fine for your needs.

Integrated graphics should suffice for basic games.

DO NOT buy a Macbook pro - you could buy up to 3 perfectly adequate PC laptops for the same price, and the Macbook will most likely be obsolete within a year or two (In some cases already.) Much cheaper to get a laptop for around $500 and replace when necessary.

As much as I detest Best Buy, they have a decent i5 computer in there this week. I would add more memory though, only has 4GB. They do have an i3 with 6GB ram for $50 more.

I have a gateway desktop right now. For the most part I've been happy with it, only thing that has gone wrong is the hard drive. I knew when I bought it that I wanted to replace them.

Yeah, getting one for under that is easy. I'm not an expert computer person, but I love my laptop we got this year. It was at Walmart, the cute green/teal colored one with flowers on it, matching mouse... it's an HP Pavilion g series it says on it. I love it. It's quick, does everything I want, it was about $600 with taxes and all.

I agree. I went Apple about 2 years ago and will never look back.

We replaced our laptop with a MacBookPro. Then I bought an ipod touch, then my dad got an ipad through work and gave it to me. Then our desktop died a few months ago and we got an iMac.

We are not a full fledged Apple family and I will never go back.

Only DH has a PC laptop but it is from his work, not owned by us.

For us, it is about what you will use it for and who you are purchasing it for.

DH is rough on computers and plays alot of games and movies and whatnot, so I got him a Toshiba for $329 about a year ago, surprised it has lasted this long.

For myself, I got an HP Entertainment DV6 with Blu-ray player, I paid about $629 for it, but I do all our banking, surfing the web, facebook, watching Blu-rays, Netflix, checking e-mail. It is exactly what I wanted, I looked for it for awhile and pondered it amongst others, including an Apple. It will last me awhile, because DH is not allowed to use it very often, since he has his own.

I have to agree as well. You can get a Macbook, 13" for less than $1000. My husband got me one for Christmas 2 years ago for $880 from Mac Connection. It's 2 years old and still looks, feels and acts brand new. You can't go wrong with a Mac.
