I only have 12-14 lbs to lose. I want to lose 7lbs. over the next 3 1/2 weeks before I go to WDW and take a Disney cruise. I having been playing with 3lbs. One day I am down 3lbs., a few days later I am back up. I have increased my water intake and cut back my Coke intake to where I only have a Coke every 10 days or so. I am a very picky eater. I am semi-active and I am trying to limit what I eat. I think that part of my problem is that I don't have much to lose. I have been trying to get these same 7lbs. off for a month to no avail. I have lost 4-5lbs. that are staying off. I just can't seem to get past that. Any suggestions????

What are you eating on an average day? Are you following any particular plan? Without knowing this I would say try to exercice everyday and incorporate some light wgts into your routine and make sure you have a minimal of 64oz of water each day.

I've heard that the last few pounds come off the slowest - don't give up keep trying - you'll get there!:D

I hear ya!

DH, DD and I are set to cruise May 29th and I'm trying to rid myself of at least 5 lbs before then, but I'm not getting anywhere!

I lost 35 lbs on WW three years ago, and gained back 7 which I constantly struggle with. After doing the cruise last year (which I gained 8!) I came home and immediately went back on the plan as I had my nephew's wedding coming up and a new size 4 dress which I wanted to wear. (I'm short, size 4 is not that small at my height!) No problem then, but it won't work now.

I think I'm going to try SBD, as I wonder if I'm consuming too many 'bad carbs'. I'm currently on WW, but have been stuck at this plateau for weeks now.:worried:

Some things that have helped me:

Measure your portions! If you are eating cereal I would measure that. I discovered I had been eating a bowl of cereal that was 4or 5 hundred calories! Cereal portions are very small.
I really like splenda and I never thought I would be able to use a sugar substitute.
Get a calorie counter one with restaraunts if you eat out- I found out one of my favorite things to get at a restaurant was 950 calories!
Hope this helps a little
:D

I was watching my carbs for about 3 weeks and lost the 1st 4-5lbs but then I seemed to plateau and didn't lose anymore so I quit. I have been drinking at a lot of water (between 70-100ozs. ). I have been trying to eat more vegetables, which I don't like many of and eating cereal and yogurt. Basically now I am just cutting back on what I eat and limiting my sweets. I think I need to get back on the treadmill. I only had 18lbs. to lose to begin with. It's very frustrating.

Thanks for the tips.

it's very hard to say without knowing more like your age, size, build, height, etc. Have you read Dr. Phil's book at all? I'm not a HUGE fan, but I do think he has good points in the Ultimate Weight Solution. I'm listening to it on audio book, though i've only got about 5 more lbs to go b/c I think it'll help my thinking re:food.

anyhow -- first ?? -- is your goal weight realistic? how did you come up with this magic number?

second ?? -- would you consider tracking your calories for a few days? You should be eating a minimum of 1200 calories/day to avoid the starvation response. that is when you eat too little and discombombulate your metabolism and your body stores fat unncessarily b/c it thinks you are literally starving.

third ?? -- what is your activity level? one should exercise 4-5 times a week for weight loss and strength building is an excellent way to build muscle, which in revs up your daily metabolism so you burn more calories each day.

fourth ?? -- have you measured yourself? inches off is far better than pounds off -- muscle weighs more than fat but takes up less space

now -- deep breath -- and lose your frustrations! not allowed!! don't be hard on yourself, you are choosing healthy and your body thanks you for it!

Yes my weight goal is realistic. I came up with the weight number because that is the weight I was at until 2 years ago when I put the weight on. I am just trying to get the weight I gained off. My work schedule changed at that time and I found myself eating junk food instead of real meals and drinking LOTS of Cokes. I am 5'3" and this morning I weighed 136. I am 32 years old. I weighed 124 and maintained it fairly easily until 2 years ago. I know exactly what I did wrong to gain it. I could kick myself because I lost all but the last 7lbs. around this time last year and went on vacation and only gained about 2lbs. back even after eating excessively but because I did that I fell off of my health kick and gained it back. Now that Spring is here I am trying to start exercising again. I just finished using the treadmill ( 2 1/2miles). I try not to eat more than 1400 calories. I am trying to set a smaller goal 1st, I want to break 130. I know I don't have much to lose and I probably shouldn't complain but I am not happy with the way I look and I can tell a difference in the way I feel too so I want the extra weight off.

I haven't read Dr. Phil's book so I don't know much about what he says to do. Maybe I should take a look at it. I am trying to read thes boards and hoping that it will inspire me. :)

I have not read the above post, so forgive me if I repeat something someone else has already said.

I would increase your cardio, and try eating smaller, but more meals through out the day. Your body has hit a plateau that most of us hit while trying to lose weight. Try a different but challenging exercise.

I would cut the Coke out totally until you lose that last little bit of weight. That could also be holding your weight at what it is. Focus on just drinking water, and drink it as much as you like.

Don't give up! It will come before you know it!

I hear ya, Goin! I'm 5'4" and have gotten down to 139 (my goal is 128). I know to some people 139 is a dream number, but we live in our own bodies and know what weight is too much. Getting off these last pounds is the hardest. You're doing great on the treadmill and the water will help immensely. I'm doing Atkins but it's still a very slow process. It gets harder as we get older (I'm 37) so now is a good time to take it off. Just be patient and know you're learning good habits for the future.

PS Could you switch to Diet Cokes?

DVCTiff,

I tried switching to Diet Coke but I really don't like it, therefore it really doesn't satisy me the way Coke does. It really is hard. These boards are helpful. :)

Same here! I've been working my butt off doing cardio & weights also. Makes you mad, doesn't it?

I'm with you guys. I feel your pain. I'm holding at 140 and would love to lose another 15 lbs. but at my age (47) I guess I need to be realistic. I would at least like to be 130 again. I lost 3 lbs with the flu....does that count? lol.....but of course it came right back on! The weight is just not coming off. It's not fun getting old!

I'm not going to give up. We can all do this. It can be done!

I totally agree that the last few pounds are the hardest! I'm 123 right now and have 8 more pounds to go (5' 2"). And I have been saying this for weeks. I know what I need to rededicate myself to consistent exercising.
