Help-- How many boxes of cereal for 6 people for one week?

So, I've been over at Garden Grocer trying to fill my cart for our upcoming trip, and honestly, their prices are just KILLING ME !!!! So, I'm trying not to order way too much. We will have 4 adults and two preschoolers with us. We will have to get at least 2 boxes of cereal b/c my ODS has food allergies, and the rest of us don't want to eat Lucky Charms all week . So, if I buy large boxes, is two enough, or do I need more?? Also, how many apples is in a 3lb bag approximately?? Thanks for any help ! --Katie

I'd go with whatever you normally purchase for a week's worth of cereal at home.

Some people don't eat more than what's listed on the box as a serving size while others will eat double or triple the amount. Some people eat cereal as a snack between meals. And there are some, like my DH, who eat it before bedtime. There's no way for anyone to tell just how much cereal you, personally, need for a week.

there are 14 servings in a large box of Cheerios.. but of course you really have no way of knowing. Around here that would be about right, as my 2 kids eat it and I probably replace it every 2 weeks or so.

I would say there are 10-12 small apples in a 3lb bag.

My mom lives near Orlando and always brings us a few bags of food. She brings way too much, as we seem to eager to get to the parks and only eat a few bites. And, depending on when you are going, we seem to eat less in the heat.

If garden grocer prices are killing you, try marge at wegoshop.com Her delivery fee is a bit higher, but she will go to whatever store you want, ie Publix or Walmart and pick up what you want. She then charges her delivery fee and what is on the receipt.

I was going to also suggest wegoshop.com. We had Marge shop at WalMart and the prices were cheaper than gardengrocer.com.

The other good thing about Wegoshop is that they do not require a minimum order. We used them the last time and thought they were great!

Thanks for the replies, guys-- I was thinking today about doing Wegoshop-- even though the delivery fee is higher, I think it may work out to be cheaper. I'll use my GG cart as a guide for the Wegoshop list! --Katie

I have a freind who has 4 kids. 9.10, 5, 2 years old. They go through 3 boxes a week. I would reccomend buying a bit LESS than you think you need. I know our last trip (two college students, two kids) we didnt eat much for breakfast (if we ate at all). We were too excited. I know we got mini boxes (the mini packs of 10) and didnt even finish that off.

I agree with the PP's who said to use wegoshop. She's great! She will also substitute items if the store is all out (she got us the Wal-Mart brand sugar free orange drink because they were out of sugar free Tang and also picked another granola bar flavor for the kind they were out of but similar chocolate chip kind).
For cereal, I would say to get 3 12oz boxes. Cereal is a good snack even aside from eating it for breakfast! We got oatmeal too....boiled the water in the coffee maker.
