Help Having Second Thoughts About Trip

I just booked VB for three nights & VWL for three nights in May. I am thinking maybe I should skip the WDW and stay at VB the entire time.

I will be traveling with DH & DD's (3, 21 months & 8 months at that time). Should I even try WDW with these ages & just the two of us?

We also have reservations in Sept. for 1 week at SSR with the grandmothers. Should I just wait until then to take the girls to their first WDW experience?

Will there be enough stuff at VB to keep us busy for 6 nights?

Thanks for any input!

Well I can tell you that my youngest son was 2 when he did his first beach trip. He would have dug in the sand all day if I let him, did the same thing the following year. He's almost 6 now and still talks about "the Beach".

I can't really help you on WDW, because I didn't have the guts or patience to take my kids until the youngest one was potty trained, free of naps(now that happened alot sooner than the potty) and didn't want/or need a stroller.

I'm sorry

I'm sorry I don't have an answer but you made me laugh. With 3 children so young I think you would be busy enough. Maybe you and your DH could just relax, I'm sure you deserve it. I would wait for our first trip to share with the grandmas. What wonderful memories and the extra hands couldn't hurt. Whatever you decide have a magical trip!:wizard:

VWL has a nice kiddie pool and a nice beach area for sand toys. It may be easier at that beach than by the ocean. VB pool area is also wonderful, with a pirate ship for the kids to play on! I'm a grandma, and we went with family, DGC ages 1, 2, and 3 to WDW in August, and that was hard (for me, it wore me out, but again, I'm the grandma!) and there were usually 3-4 adults present. VWL is "Good" because of easy access to MK by boat, it was easy enough with the stroller.

I guess I would go with your first choice, it's what you wanted to do, and once you've done both, you will have the experience behind you.

PS. I can understand your feelings of ambivalence, I wonder if I were willing to change resorts in the middle of a 6 night trip, with 3 children.

I'm thinking your thinking is very sound. Three children that age at WDW with just 2 of you can be a real challenge. September is also a slower time we have found. May used to be slow but the last couple of times we went it seemed things had changed and with the grad nights etc was actually quite busy. Don't worry about being busy at VB - just take the time to relax and enjoy all the things you can do on the beach or by the pool. You could also stay one less night there and add a night to SSR if that works with your schedule so you can do WDW in a more relaxed fashion. Good luck and hope you have a great trip.

I first want to say that it's best to ask yourself just what you hope to get out of this vacation. Is relaxing the goal or is watching your little ones at the World (not much relaxing) more the intent?

Based on the ages of your children, I would say to wait and do WDW in September. We went this past Labor Day and now rank that week the absolute best time to go. Temperatures were good, which meant no cranky sweaty kids hollering "Mama I'm thirsty." Crowds were small. We waited in line no more than 10 minutes for anything and most rides less than five.

Someone once gave me a very good piece of advice. They said that when considering your vacation destination, put the most consideration into the pool and other water effects. That is the one thing kids are most interested in. I have found this to be true. My kids will walk around the Magic Kingdom asking when we can go back to the resort to swim. They couldn't care less when the next character meet is or what ride I'd like to ride again. It's all about the resort pool and waterslides.

I also have to add that every single time we've been to WDW, my husband and I make the same comment. "We would never even think of bringing infants." While we sit eating an ice cream cone and people watching, we notice all the parents that are tired and struggling with infants and toddlers. They are fighting bathroom breaks, pacifiers, strollers, sunscreen, lack of naps, etc. One parent gets to ride rides while the other sits under a tree with the rest of the litter longing for the days when they can all get on that ride together.

Chances are, none of your kids will remember this trip, other than maybe your 3 year old.

Anyway, I hope that I'm not casting a shadow over what others are encouraging you to do. That is not my intent. Again, do what you can live with and what you personally feel that your family will get the most enjoyment out of.

For my family personally, we try to take trips that will be bonding for the entire group and the least amount of stress. You have the next 18 years to pack on the stresses of WDW, why not wait until those little ones can walk, instead of ride.

I would wait till Sept, We are going in NOV with both sets of grandparents, 16 all together, At that time kids will be 12, 10 & 11 months, Bro & SIL with their boys, 14 & 9, We had a blast this past NOV just adding to the mix our daughter born 12/22/06 and my parents best friends from Germany and their son. Everyone is willing to help out with our newborn daughter, that is if they can get her out of my hands!

I would think that if it was just us going, with the the three kids, something might be lost of the magic.

Enjoy the magic

Just because you are at WDW does not mean you have to spend all of your time at the parks. When my son was about 4, we would just spend 3 or 4 hours in the morning at the parks, and the rest of the day arround the pool.

Given the ages of your children, I would do what is easiest for you. They will probably be happy any place they can get dirty :)

I have two daughters who are now 8 and 6, and we've been going to Disney about 4 times a year since they were fetuses. (Just a little intro to qualify myself for giving advice ;) )

If it was just the one trip, I'd say split it and go to both; May (as long as it's not memorial day weekend) is great in Disney.

Our kids are good on long trips (we never gave them a choice LOL), so an extra hour and a half over to WDW was 1 DVD away, a snap.

If you've done WDW a few times you should be fine-If you're the type of mom that can get those three kids through the grocery store without meltdowns (grownup or kid), you can get them through wdw because, really, it's all about pacing and planning and going at THEIR speed.

But, if I were planning to do the same trip you were, I'd just leave WDW for september. There's a lot of packing/unpacking involved with little kids!

You'll look forward to it more if you didn't just leave WDW a few months ago.

And we've had trips where the girls were a lot more challenging, and it was good to give ourselves a few extra months where we didn't go back until we'd mostly forgotten about the 'challenging' part and remembered the 'magic' part...:lmao:

We took our first trip to VB last Oct. Only stayed 2 night but wish we could have stayed longer but couldn't because we were going on the Magic for a 7 night cruise. If I could have I would have canceled the cruise and spent the rest of my vacation time at VB, so relaxing.

I took in DD to WDW when she was 23 month old, to tell you the truth it was one of the biggest mistake I ever made in my life not to mention a waste of money.

Relax in May and let the Grandma's help you in Sept.

VB has a really cool themed water play area for little ones....

I think they'd be happy doing that alll day.

They would be too young to do the kids activities during the day....

and it is sunny out, so bring sunscreen.

My vote with small children is to find a good place with a pool, and don't move around any more than necessary. (Too much stuff).

So I think I'd do the whole VB thing.

It's lovely.

Either way, have a wonderful trip.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I think a week at VB will be good for us! We will wait until later in the year for WDW.

Thanks again,
Melanie :flower3:

I will be in VB in May also. My boys are 8 and 4 and we just bought DVC (SSR) in December. This is our first trip to a DVC resort.

Maybe we will see you there.:cool1:

milmom6-

We are going to be at VB May 13-16th then on to SSR. Isn't this exciting! We just bought also and this will be our first trip! Let me know when you are going.

I agree with the others that said wait, as well as with your decision. It is tiring enough to do WDW with one child in that toddler age group, but with 3! You are brave!! I think you made the right choice to wait until September to do the WDW portion of your trip. The kids will have a blast at VB and it will be more relaxing in general for you as well!
