I have a disc herniation in my neck and I am having an epidural block on Friday. Has anyone had this before and what restrictions will I have and what will I be capable of doing that night and next day? I will be at home alone with my DD4, who is developmently delay and is more on the level of a 2 1/2-3 year old, that night and then will be traveling to the inlaws the next day, 4 hour trip, may have to let DD18 drive (lets all say a pray if I have to do this). Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sure....I've had them with my c-sections. They wear off in a couple of hours and then you'll be fine (like novacaine for your lower body). They may not want to you drive...just to be sure you have all of your feeling/control back....other than that, it'll be fine.

I would see about getting someone to help you the night of your epidural. You dont know how you will react to it. Even if you've had them before, your body may decide to act all weird about it. you never know what kind of interaction you will have with the drugs. You may or may not be able to help your child. If you feel OK. to take care of your child after a few hours of help being there, then send them home. But I would at least have someone on stand by just in case. Good Luck and Merry Christmas.....

I had one. I don't do well with needles and medical procedures, so I was given vercet (sp) and was a little out of it for a few hours afterwards. Went home and slept it off. Once the local wore off I was a bit sore. That lasted a couple of days. They said I could go back to work the next day and just do what I felt up to. Not sure about picking up a preschooler. About 2 days after the injectione, I was amazed that my pain was finally gone. Hope it works as well for you. Mine was also in my neck. My injection was 3 years ago and other than an occasional pain or ache, I have not needed any follow-up injections.

As long as you don't have any complications, I think driving the next day would be fine.

Good luck!

I felt just fine after mine the night of, but both times my back was very sore for a couple days afterwards. The night of you may still be feeling a little off, but I suspect the day after aside from soreness you will be feeling like yourself. :)
