Because of the way our schedule works out, we need to eat counter service (table service is not an option) for supper twice at MGM. I don't think that we have ever been impressed with the offerings there so... what are the best locations/food items at MGM? We are on the dining plan and have 2 kids, ages 7 and 10.

Thanks!

Here's a link to the all of the menus at MGM, including counter service:

I actually enjoy the offerings at MGM, although I realize I am mostly in the minority. Anyway, Rosie's All American Cafe and Catalina Eddie's are right next to each other, by Tower of Terror, giving the choice of a burger/chicken strips or pizza.

The Backlot Express offers sandwiches (if you want to get away from fried food), and the Flatbread Grill has really good...you guessed it....flatbread.

Anyway, good luck with planning! :thumbsup2

My favorite CS in MGM is Toy Story Pizza Planet.

They offer three different kinds of pizza (cheese, pep, veggie). The combos come with a side salad too and since you are on the DDP you will also get a dessert (they have Mickey Head rice krispy treats) and a drink. Also there are no kids meals there so your kids would get an adult size meal on the DDP.

There is also air conditioned seating which is nice and a pretty cool arcarde (if your kids are into that).

HTH!

I didn't love the MGM counter service either. I hated pizza planet, yuck (sorry to each his own). But we did have an okay meal at (I think it was called) the Back Lot. It was right behind "HISTK" play ground. They had a bigger menu and everything was good. Good Luck!

MGM dining is always a challenge for us too. If you haven't already checked out the menus, you should http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm#mgm

We love Backlot Express. Pizza Planet is kind of a fun environment, but the pizza isn't that wonderful.....I wish that they would subcontract with someone that could make a pizza that tasted better than what you get at Chuckie Cheese. ABC's cuban is pretty good, but I don't know that they have a varied enough menu for your kiddos. I have never been overly impressed with the Flatbread Grill though.

Happy planning! Maggie

We love Rosie's/ Eddie's for lunch - we always eat there while waiting for our FP to Tot or RnR
Then we eat dinner at Pizza Planet - the individual pizza can be gotten with a salad or breadsticks and we can split these up.
We also like the backlot express for a variety of items

We have a similar situation as the OP--is Starring Rolls an option to get a sandwich for dinner?

If you have kids they will love Toy Story-Pzza Planet. We went last July and plan to return in December. To me pizza is pizza pretty much. It is a fun atmosphere, the kids enjoy it, and it is a cool (air conditioned) break!

Have you considered going to DTD or one of the resort CS/food courts? Pop Century is really close, and so are the All-Stars, and most of the resorts are no more than 15 minutes from MGM. You can just hop on the resort bus of your choice, and then hop back on and get back to MGM.

As far as sticking it out in MGM, we thought the ABC Commissary was ok, and it was air conditioned. :goodvibes

Hi,

I am also curious if anyone has been to Starrring Rolls for lunch or dinner lately? The reviews on allears.net are good but more are from breakfast/snacks than lunch. It seems like the choices at MGM are limited and I am also considering visiting the Boardwalk instead of eating at MGM.

Maybe now that it will be renamed Disney Hollywood studios the restaurants will get a facelift (kitchen lift?) !

less than 2 months til POFQ

If I were choosing 2 CS places at MGM, it would be Backlot Express and Toy Story Pizza Planet. I've enjoyed the food at both places.

I always take my kids to Toy Story Pizza Planet, but really, it is just OK. But it is decent food, and my DD loves it. I like the idea of going over to the resorts for a bite, isn't the boardwalk/yacht & beach club within walking distance? maybe I'll try that next time....

good luck!

:goodvibes

We had pizza and salad at Catalina's Eddies which was pretty good.

You could also make one of these your "chicken finger" day - and go to backlot express. They're disney chicken fingers (the same pretty much everywhere) so you can't really screw them up.

Or, what about ice cream for dinner? I mean, it is vacation.... :rotfl:

When we were at MGM last October Starring rolls closed late afternoon (before dinner time).
