Help Grand Floridian Room Upgrade Dilema

Hi Gang,

Not sure what to do. I just got a call from the Grand Floridian saying that we had been upgraded to lodge concierge for our upcoming trip. Now normally this would sound like a good thing, but here's my dilema. I paid for Lagoon view so that my nieces (this is their first trip to disney) would have a good chance of having a view of the castle at night. From what I have been able to gather online, the Sugar loaf key building does not have any lagoon view rooms and NO chance of a castle view. Has anyone ever DECLINED an upgrade and just requested what they originally booked? I don't want to offend anyone at the GF and risk not getting a good view anyway. Has anything like this happened to anyone? and if so how did u handle it? Thanks for any advice.

Kevin.

Only thing to consider, requests are just requests. You could decline the upgrade and still not get a castle view. Just a water view without a castle view.

Sugarloaf is very nice. Great view of the quiet pool and very close to the main building.

I have to agree with Deb and Bill, there would be no way to know you would have gotten the castle view. Especially since many lagoon rooms do not have a good view of the castle.

However Sugar loaf is a fun building, centrally located. I especially like the marina view and concierge is really nice for breakfast.

Wow -- I think I would go with the concierge - its a great service and a whole different kind of neat - I bet the girls would enjoy that as well. I know my niece and nephew LOVED the Poly concierge...we also had the Castle view but that didn't seem as important to them as the soda and cookies and strawberries and lemonade and well you get the idea!

I've had lagoon view and requested a castle view. We ended up in Big Pine Key looking at the Poly and Wedding Chapel.

I would go with concierge.

Ok, thanks everyone. I guess I was just freaking out a little bit when I started reading up on Sugarloaf and alot of people where saying that it wasn't the greatest views and I was kinda hoping for a castle view. Well hopefully we'll get a marina view and we will be able to see some of the fireworks.

When are you going? BTW, SL is now full concierge with cordials, evening desserts, and wine/beer. Make sure to email the IPO staff to have them help you plan any last minute details. wdwgfplanning@disney.com

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that we leave on Friday the 30th. This will be the 6th trip for me and the wife and the first trip for my sister, her husband and my 2 nieces.

Take the upgrade! If you decline, you may still be placed in a room without a castle view. You can go out to the boat dock to see the castle. :)

How did you find out about the upgrade? Did they call you? We're leaving on the 30th as well, staying at WL in a courtyard view. Would LOVE an upgrade to concierge!!!

Just really curious here.

Maybe we'll see you at MNSSHP on the 2nd? I'll have a 1 year old Snow White princess: and a 3 year old pirate! pirate:

r u nuts :rotfl2: take the upgrade
those room cost a fortune

what if you turn it down and dont get the castle view

Turn down concierge? No way!

I wonder what happened that made them upgrade you....would be very nice to find out!

Meezer's,

I'd really love to find out myself. They left a message on my machine today saying that it was the Disney itinerary planning office and when I called back, the girl just started asking questions about what time we were arriving at the airport and when we thought we would be arriving at the hotel. This has never happened in all of our trips to Disney so I was a little curious thinking that maybe this was a new service, but when she said "Just tell the guard at the gate that your staying concierge and we will have someone meet you at the entrance" I almost dropped the phone. I said to her that we had not paid for concierge and she replied "I know but you've been upgraded to lodge concierge." no explanations or anything and to be honest I was to shocked to ask :teeth: :teeth:

Wow!!! You are lucky!! :flower: I have been to WDW over 30 times and NEVER got an upgrade when we didn't book concierge. We just always book it now ;)

Your family will LOVE concierge. It will be a treat!

Enjoy the magic!! :wizard:

That is incredible. Concierge should be magnificient! That is incredible luck :cool1:

I was once offering a complimentary stay at the BC concierge when our reservation was booked incorrectly at the Yacht Club. I didn't ask any questions, either, I just said, wow, thank you! :teeth:

Later, when we redeemed our free stay, I was told it was a mistake that'd we'd been offered it, but they gave it to us anyway since we were there at the hotel and had it in writing (they'd mailed us a confirmation).

Have a wonderful trip and thank those super-lucky stars

I had the same experience last summer--I really wanted lagoon view, and booked that. When I arrived at the resort, I was informed that I'd been upgraded to concierge at Sugar Loaf. I was in a quandry for about 2 minutes! :rotfl: :rotfl: Then, I said, "yeah, I'll take it!!!" We had the best trip! To compensate, we sat on the lawn at night at watched electrical water pageant, and the fireworks. Take the concierge. You won't be disappointed.

Take the upgrade! We also were there in April with LV. Went through 2 rooms til I got the castle view which was only if you sat to the far right of the patio (1st floor Boca Chica). We ended up jumping the railing with towels and sitting on the grass, which was great too! There were some palm trees so I'd guess some of the rooms above had a tree in front of their view also.
