Ok for those with weak stomachs, hit your back button on your browsers...

Calling any parents or anyone ever having to deal with that awful "throw up" smell on a beloved item I need your help!

4 yr old dd got sick to her stomach last night and her beloved beanie buddy "Crystal Kitty" got showered with it. I was able to get it clean but I just can't get rid of that smell. I've tried washing her fur with dish detergent, laundry detergent and then spraying her with Febreeze, airing her outside, etc...smell still there, ugh!

I'm trying to avoid putting her in a bag through the gentle cycle because I know she will get beat up and her fur will never be close to the same (did this with some of my stuffed animals when i was a kid)...I'm looking for another Crystal, but this one just has that sentimental value because dd has had it since she was 3 months old...any ideas??????? Thanks.

I've washed beanies in the washer before with no problems. They also have fabreeze for the machine. I think you should be fine washing it, I use a pillow case to protect them.

I had to do this with my daughters "lovie" a gund stuffed doll. I wound up having to put her through the washing machine. I put her in a pillow case, then ran her through the gentle cycle and then air dried her. She came out good. But she is more velvet than fur. I personally have had bad experiences with Fabreeze. The Fabreeze smell lingers, and to me smells like carpet cleaner. Good luck to you.

THANK YOU for some of those suggestions, probably my best bet! Do you remember if you washed them in hot, warm or cold (just don't want her to shrink)...yes I'm a little crazy, poor dd caught this virus last week at school and I even kept her out extra days to build up her immune system only to return this week and get it AGAIN, UGH!! But, really appreciate your help!

I've usually used cold water, my DD had some she left outside and they were a little moldy so I think I washed those in warm, I don't think I worried about them because if they hadn't come clean I'd have thrown them out.

does ty have a website? they may have washing instructions.

I have also washed Beanies in the washing machine and they came out looking as good as new. I used warm water, you can always use the gentle cycle.

I feel your pain. We went through this when DS was an infant with stuffed Blue. Gentle Cycle, Pillowcase, cold water, hang up to dry in the laundry room with a dehumidifier running. Blue came through with flying colors, and the smell went away.

You might try using either Petzyme or Nature's Miracle. You can get them at PetSmart or another pet-type store.

They are the only things I have found to get the smell of doggy "accidents" out of my carpeting. :(

Seconding what Disneyaholic said - those pet cleaners have enzymes specifically designed to remove "biological oops" smells - everything from poop to throw-up. I don't know about the first one, but Nature's Miracle works great and is relatively cheap - about $4/bottle.
