I've decided that if I don't have the security deposit back by Monday, July 2, 2007 I'm going to have my employer send a letter and I'm going to send a letter to the Attorney General and Better Business Bureau copying both the owners and the agent.
While the agent tried to get me another home, he didn't have what we needed for our dates and it was too late to change the dates. I'd already bought airfare for 10 people and put my vacation request in at work. Whiel I would have preferred to pay with a credit card this particular agent isn't set up to take credit cards so I had to send a check.
I ended up going with a house that managed by a large management company that does take credit cards. Since I was less than sixty days out I just put the whole thing on a credit card and then just paid it off. Hopefully, there won't be any problems with this one!
I guess I'm fortunate in that while this is inconvenient, its not going to ruin my vacation. I feel really bad for others that may not be in my financial situation and won't be able to rent another house (I had to pay almost $300 more for the new house) and are having a hard time getting their deposit back too. Some of the others who rented the same house I did have gotten even less notice and may not have the extra money for another security deposit and more money in rent to say nothing of those that might have paid their full rent for their stay.
