Help from UK travellers for an Aussie wanting to go shopping in Florida :)

Hello!!

Just wondering if any UK Disney travellers can help me with a question. We are coming to WDW in Nov from Australia. We are staying at the Polynesian and really would love to go to Walmart or one of the shopping places like the Florida Mall. We wont have a car and would like to know if you can get a taxi to Walmart (if there is one nearby) and approximately how much would it cost?

The other thing that worries me is that once we get to Walmart, how do we get a taxi back as we wont have any phones on us? Also, is it a fairly safe place to go?

I know a lot of the UK travellers tend to frequent the shopping areas so any advice or tips would be really appreciated. Thanks so much

There are two Wal-Marts you could consider - the one at the junction of the Apopka-Vineland Road and Osceola Parkway (5 miles), and the one near the junction of the Palm Parkway and the Central Florida Parkway (6.5 miles).

You could easily get a taxi from the Poly (if there isn't one waiting, just ask at the valet station). You'd be looking at something between $25 and $35 (pre-tip) each way. I'm not sure about getting back, but I'm sure someone else can help with that.

ETA: Just noticed that you also mentioned the Florida Mall. That's likely to cost in the region of $40 each way, pre-tip, but it should be easy to get a taxi back. The Mall at Millenia would be a similar distance/cost.

On our 1st trip we didn't hire a car. The day we went shopping off site (we went to the Florida Mall and the Mall at the Millenia) we used a taxi to get us to the mall, then when we were dropped off we arranged a time with the taxi driver to come and pick us up again. He then took us to another shopping centre and again arranged a pick up time when he dropped us off there. That worked out fine, although I can't remember how much the fare was, but I do remember that it wasn't really all that much.
