Hello! I need your expertise! I will be visiting my friend this summer in Leeds and then need to fly from Manchester or Birmingham to Fort Lauderdale in Florida. I can't seem to find any flights. Am I looking too early? Do people from the UK not fly to Fort Lauderdale?

Any ideas on websites I can check out or specific airlines. I would be so grateful. Thanks in advance!

I'd imagine you'd have to fly from a London airport (Heathrow, most likely, though possibly Gatwick) to get the option of a less used destination. And even then, I don't know if any airlines fly there, it may be that you'll have to fly Manchester to MCO and drive to Fort Lauderdale. :confused3

As far as I know there are no flights direct from any UK airport to Fort Lauderdale. You would have to change planes somewhere. Or go direct from London to Miami (again no direct route from either Manchester or Birmingham to Miami)

If you know all your dates I guess the cheapest way to go is book all your flights together as one multi leg trip, rather than doing one way flights.

Look at Orbitz.com
Travelsupermarket.com might need UK address to book
& Kayak.com (we have .co.uk version)

I am less than 10 miles from Leeds, which area you going to, do you know?

Had a quick look at the Continental Airlines UK website - you could fly out of London Heathrow, Manchester or Birmingham. All flights would go to Newark where you would change for a flight to Fort Lauderdale. Looking at July one-way flights were quite expensive - £612 from Heathrow, £635 from Manchester, £647 from Birmingham.

I wonder if you would be better to try and find a cheap flight via Continental, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways or similar to Newark and then book a connecting flight from Newark to Fort Lauderdale with a cheaper airline in the US?

Yes, the closest you'll get is Miami. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and American Airways all fly direct from London Heathrow.

Thank you friends, very helpful indeed.

Wayneg my friend lives in Kirkstall, I'm pretty sure she works in Dewsbury!

One little foible to watch out for on flights one way from the UK - they seem to charge double the price so it costs even more than a return! If you can find some way to connect your flight out here with the ones back it may save quite a chunk.
