We heard on a recent podcast about a handheld device that would assist people with low vision. The device will describe locations as you walk through the park. We have looked for details on the show notes page, and have not found a link to any information.
I was wondering if anyone has tried this device or knows where to find more details.

Also, I was wondering if there are any other suggestions to improve the experience of someone with low vision.

There is an article on the Bella-Online Vision Issues site about Disney with Low Vision. I had posted the link here, but decided against it and edited the post to remove it. Google should be able to turn it up. I also found one on the AllEARS website.

Both mention that you can get braille guides or descriptive listening devices.

There is information and some links in post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You can find the thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature to get there.

Once you are in post #3, the first links are to WDW official information, where you will find links to their webpages about various types of disabilities, including vision.
Further down in post #3, there are links for different types of disabilities or information, arranged alphbetically. You will find more information there.

If you have any trouble finding it, just post here again and I will link it for you.
I would do it now, but have to get to bed.

I read about that device on all ears and from what I can recall ( it has been awhile so please forgive any bad info) it is still in a testing phase and is only at Holly Wood Studios. I'm not sure if it is ready to be used by the public, but you should be able to pop into guest services and they would know for sure. Also in case you did not know already they can also offer more help there as well, just go by and tell them about the vision problem and they will be able to help you out with viewing for shows and the like.

Thanks for all the information. If anyone has any other tips to help someone with low vision, I would greatly appreciate it.

I would suggest an ID came. I have been to WDW 3 times now since I lost my vision, and using my ID came has helped so much with the crowds. My next trip to WDW is April 2011 and I am looking forward to using this device. Hopefully there will be more feedback in the coming months.

Have a wonderful trip.
