Headed to WDW March 15, flying in from Syracuse. We are using Magical Express, I just noticed our luggage might not arrive with us. Looking for suggestions on what to wear...
do we dress for Fl and freeze in NY? Manage a change of clothes in our carry-on?

Layers are your friend. I usually wear running shoes or a sturdy walking shoe, not sandal or flip flops. Can you wear a fleece shirt over a t-shirt to get to the airport, and remove the fleece once you board the plane? Another alternative would be wearing a multilayer windbreaker with a zip out lining to the airport, zip out the lining once you clear security and pack it into your carryon. Also take a pair of gloves/mitts and a hat and stash them into your carryon.

We always park in the attached airport garage in Syr, not in the open lot, and wear a lightweight jacket, leaving heavy coats in the car. Just walking through the garage to the elevators is not bad!
I would hate to have to travel to Fla with heavy coats....
Have a good time!:wave2:

thanks!... I should have been a little more specific, I was thinking more about the pants/shorts situation :)

I do the same thing because I don't want to have to deal with a bulky coat on the airplane. I wear a sweatshirt over a long-sleeved T-shirt with jeans on the plane and carry a short-sleeved T-shirt and shorts in my carry-on so that I'm ready for whatever the weather might be like when I get there. (I don't wear sandals so I don't have to worry about that.) By March 15 it probably won't be that cold that you'll need a heavy coat anyway.

And actually, it's not "might", your luggage won't arrive with you if you use Magical Express and let them handle your luggage. Your luggage is supposed to be delivered to your room (you don't have to be there though) within 3 hours of when you check in.

We take our coats. It's not a big deal for us. Planes can be chilly up north, and a poufy coat makes a nice pillow if you want one. After a week of warm weather we just hate going out into freezing temps to a freezing car and putting on a freezing coat. It seems to take forever to warm up, and causes severe shivering and some cussing. For clothing, we wear what we will wear at the resort that day, substituting capris or lightweight slacks for shorts and adding a fleece jacket. We each have shorts and a swimsuit in the tote bag.

A few more weeks and we'll be stepping of the plane in Costa Rica...carrying parkas. :)

I am assuming when you say you won't have your luggage with you, it's because the Magical Express luggage comes about 3 hours after you arrive in the hotel??

We used the luggage tags the first year, first time we went- and that was the end of that. Waiting 3 hours for luggage was annoying, for many reasons.

We still take the Magical Express, but we don't attach the luggage tags to our suitcases. Instead, we check them as normal, and when we arrive in Orlando we go GET our suitcases from baggage claim, and then bring them over to the Magical Express boarding area. :drive: The bus driver loads up our stuff and leaves it with us at the hotel. The bags are with us at all times, no waiting.

Just a thought. :scratchin

We fly from DTW and even in May or September find the planes and concourse freezing. There are 4 of us so we each get a carry on so I put a change of clothes in for everyone; leaving room to pack bulky items like sweatshirts and jeans.

I would just wear a sweatshirt jacket or even a fleece. Depending on the Florida temps, I would probably also wear capris. We usually fly out of Albany or Syracuse in September but I always do capris and a light jacket since even then the planes can be chilly and the temp in NY can be warm or cold. Then I pack shorts, etc in a carry on bag for when we are at WDW, That we we can change but not have to wait for our bags.

I am one who hates wearing a heavy coat at any time even though I am usually always freezing. But even if the temps were like frigid ones we've been experiencing in the last week or so, I still wouldn't lug heavy coats.

I have a large outer pocket on my suitcase. I put my heavy coat in it and will pull it out at baggage claim in the cold city. Likewise, once I am in the airport I will put it in the suitcase.

For in the airports and on the plane I just wear a fleece hoodie.

We always have a carry on with at least one days change. That has nothing to do with ME it has to do with "What if the airline loses my luggage." Bell services will hold my luggage if the room is not ready but I can change into shorts if needed or a swim suite if we are going to hang at the resort on the first day.

going from cold to warm:
i wear yoga or sweat pants (nice ones;)), t-shirt/tank, sweatshirt and some kind of hoodie (like gigi said: layers), socks and sneaks. if a heavier jacket is needed, i stash a large plastic shopping bag in carry-on, and open it in MCO for said jacket. we pack a large, empty duffle in our checked baggage.
once in MCO restroom, remove top layers, switch into short and tevas (from carry-on), and put excess clothes in same carry-on.
on return trip, we put some layers in carry-on, adding a layer at airport, another on plane (i'm almost always cold ;)).
we pick up luggage in home airport, open the checked duffle (we use zip-ties, and keep a nail clipper in front zipped pocket to clip ties), and pull out coats.

this is with SWA tho, so the luggage allowance is different than most others.

I'm coming from Pittsburgh in March.
I've made several trips to Disney in winter months.

I always wear a Disney hoodie jacket.
Wear a few layers if it will be extra cold, you can peel them off in the airport.

I wear pants leaving PGH, and have a pair of shorts in my carry-on.
I always do Magic express and don't mind that my bags will be deposited in my room a few hrs after we arrive. By then I am already at a park or Downtown Disney.

I just pack what I will need right away, in my carry on. :)
(Fanny pack, pins, lanyard, camera, shorts, etc)

Soon as I get to Orlando airport, I change into the shorts & put the pants and hoodie in my carry-on. Once I get to my resort, If my room is ready I put my carry-on in my room and I'm off!

If my room isn't ready, I store my carry-on with the luggage ppl and pick it up later when I get back to the resort.
