I am heading into week 3 of having positional vertigo. I am on a new set of medications and it is improving, but not completely gone. The first two weeks were really rough since I did not know what was wrong with me. I have lost 8 lbs. due to nausea and lack of appetite, but I did finally get approval to drive again. However, I am still feeling a lot of pressure in my ears.

Anyway, my question/concerns are we are leaving for WDW in 27 days via airplane. I do not know what my triggers may be that may cause my vertigo to recur. Any advice out there? We ride EVERYTHING in WDW and I don't want to miss out on anything, but don't want to be miserable. HELP!

I have always had inner ear trouble and I have trouble with the rides that spin ( astro orbiter, dumbo, teacups, ect..) I can do most everything else, but my condition is not like yours. I would go to my doctor before the trip and get a check up and ask about flying ( if you have not done so already). The only trouble I have when flying is pressure. I chew gum and that seems to help a little bit.

My doctor wasn't much help besides being diagnosed. He just doesn't know what triggered it. They think it was a virus since two other people in my office were diagnosed with positional vertigo as well in the two weeks prior to me. I was just unaware of it at the time.

My physician told me I should just chew some gum during the flight and take a antehestimine before to help with the pressure. I am bringing plenty of medication with me, but the antivert does NOT help. I don't want to miss out on anything from either triggering it or not even trying rides out of fear. This is a special trip for us and I don't want to be miserable.

I feel good today ; so this was 3 weeks and 1 day of suffering. I hope it is gone for now. I'm tired.....
Thanks jmartinez1895 for the advice.

I understand how frusterating it can be when the doctor can not give you information. I think a good test for you might be to try something mild and work your way up.

Ear planes brand ear plugs for when in flight will help a LOT. Just do a google search to see where you can buy them and how they work. I don't fly at all without them, they are like a miracle to me. Good luck with everything; have you also tried the anti nausea sea wrist bands? Can't hurt might help. :)

Did your primary send you to an ENT to see if it was fluid based. If it is once the fluid disapates you should have limited residual issues.

I second the Earplanes for flying (I buy at Walgreens or Walmart). I've been using them for about 6 years now and don't fly without them! Only thing that helps my ears.
I have Chiari Malformation, that causes constant dizziness. One thing that helps is to avoid doing some rides more than once. One trip we rode BTM 3 or 4 times in a row. That really did me in and we had to leave. It came on very suddenly after the last ride. I could ride it once with no problem.
As was mentioned already, the rides that spin are the worst, like Teacups.

Glad to hear you are better.

Mild will be good for starters...I just hope it's gone.

Willing to try all suggestions...If I can't find, is it okay if I PM you?

Primary didn't think I needed and EMT at this point. I have to check back in Monday, so we will see where I am. I felt a lot of pressure on my ear drums - so I don't know if that means anything.

Thanks. Unfortunately the spinning rides were some of my favorites! I don't know how you can by day by day. I'm tired of not feeling like myself. Thanks for the kind words - I'll have to post how I did when I get back. For now I need to find these earplanes - Walgreens here I come!

Allergies have been very bad this year and people who have not been affected in the past have had issues. If you have ongoing pressure and significant pain I would call your call your doctor today, as the medication he has you on may not be working adequately. Check if it is OK to add musinex (just the plain over the counter version), which will help thin the mucus and allow natural drainage to begin.

Thanks for all the concern and help from everyone. Feeling much better today. My physician actually put me on an antibiotic, behind the counter sudafed and the antivert when needed. The pressure is finally gone from my ears. Felt pretty normal for the first time in a long time, but continuing the Sudafed for a few days more. Just in time to get the call that my 3 year old had a 102 fever and vomitting! I just want everyone healthy for WDW!

Thanks and I will remember the musinex for next time. The Sudafed is helping with the sinuses pretty well.:santa:

Glad to hear things are looking up for your ears/dizziness but now to make sure your little one gets better soon!! Sending get well wishes your way for both of you!

Thanks for your well wishes. It seems everyone in the family is coming down with a little something. I think it's this up and down temps here in Illinois. Today was gorgeous, but now everyone's allergies are acting up on top of the colds we caught. The good news is everyone is improving and I got my H1N1 shot (work at a hospital) and my kids are all getting it on Saturday. My DH thinks he is immune to everything and refuses to get one. So at least we will be set for the trip.

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts and helpfulness. May everything pass before we leave!!:sick::sick::sick::sick: (By the way still a little lightheadness and dizzy moments - I will be checking in with my physician tomorrow and I have my list of questions ready!)

Glad you are feeling better, it takes a few days after your ears clear for the brain to resync completly.
