Hi! DH and I plan to renew our vows on our balcony on Castaway Cay day and I have found this beautiful white dress at the outlet. Beautiful but a bit wrinkled with a little grey strains in the bottom because of all the dirt.

I would like to get it cleaned up before my vow renewal...

Should I do it at home or do they have a dry cleaning service on board? Is it much much more expensive than the the dry cleaning I could get at home? (Around 50$)

Thanks in advance.

I would take it to the cleaners at home then just use the pressing service on the ship. That way if they can't get the spots out you still can look at options.

Is it a wedding gown?

Actually, the dry cleaning service on the ship is very reasonable we found. It was actually cheaper for DH to get his suit dry cleaned on the ship than it was at our local dry cleaners. I am not sure how much they would hcarge for a wedding dress though.

However, I would be more concerned about whether the marks would come out and, if there is any risk they might not and you wouldn't want to wear it with the marks still on it, then it might be worth having it done at home.

Also, if you do have anything dry cleaned onboard be sure to write on the slip that you don't want them to write on your clothing. I have my stateroom numbers from many cruises written on the tags of many pieces of clothing in permanent ink. Since I started writing this in bold lettering on my slips they haven't done it again. If that matters to you. It does to me because I resell a lot of my more expensive clothes and any markings even on a tag devalues the piece.

There is dry cleaning onboard:

I'm with Wilma-bride. I find the cleanings service aboard the ships to be very good. And it may just be me, but it seemed the prices had gone up a bit when I was on the Hawaii cruise last month. But they are still very much in line with most shoreside cleaning prices.

If you have an actual WEDDING gown, I don't think I would have it cleaned onboard but would look for a specialist at home and have it pressed aboard as mentioned by Sweetpee. As for white clothing and stains, think about it folks. The cleaning services on the ships take care of TONS of white officers' uniforms and they are experts in getting stains out. On the Hawaii cruise I accidentally sat on a purple orchid petal from someone's lei in the Honolulu Port terminal. And yes, I had on white pants of course. :sad2: And I don't mean it stained a little, but I had a couple of VERY purple spots on my backside! Sent 'em to the cleaners the minute we got onboard and they came back sparkling white, just as expected! I did take the time to notate on the cleaning form what/where the stains were.

It is considered to be a wedding gown althought it might not be as fancy or delicate as one might think.

The prices of DCL sound good! I'm surprised (it's much more affordable than I thought).

I may have it dry cleaned at home because it would suck to get stuck with a wrinkly dress that they wouldn't want to clean up but it will definitely be a good price for my husbands suit!

Thank you!

We have used the laundry/dry cleaning service on the ships many times. It has always been good quality, just about the same price as back home, and enables us to pack less (and what we do bring not worry about wrinkling). On one long cruise we brought a luggage of clothing that needed cleaning just crammed in, sent it all out that first day for cleaning, and had a clean and pressed wardrobe ready to go for the trip!

I had a beautiful, brand new, never warn, tags still in it, gathered at the sides dress that I sent out for pressing. It came back ruined. They pressed out all the gathers and it looked like a giant maternity dress. I would not trust DCL with something like a wedding dress. The same people pressing your wedding dress also press the table linens...they are not "professional dry cleaners".

Have it cleaned at home.

The cleaning service on board is not very good quality.
