help dont know what to do

We went to Disney for the first time this Easter and loved it. We booked to go again JULY06. Our son is 8 but i am now pregnant and due 2/2/06. We are unsure as to what to do. Should we cancel or take a young baby. We could go early June instead of late July as planned so it wont be as hot. Our son is of course upset at the thought of it being cancelled. Any advice regarding travelling with a baby would be appreciated. Thanks.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Our DD is 2 and a quarter and on Saturday we will be leaving for her 5th trip to WDW. We first took her at 6months, then 11 months, 16 months and 23 months. Every trip has been great. The first trip was really special, we just took a slow pace and spent lots of time strolling around. There are a lot of things the baby can go on. Our DD loved it, she smiled and giggled at the characters and parades. She slept well in the pram and the travel cot. The baby care centres at the parks were very useful. At that age they are happy anywhere as long as you are there. I am not sure if I would take a baby under 3 months, might be a bit soon to fly and the nights are broken still, but that is just my view. I breastfed until 6 months and did not want to have to do that on the plane etc, but again that is just me.

If you can stay somewhere with kitchen facilities that would be better. For our first trip with DD we stayed at Disneys Beach Club. We love it there but it was a bit of a pain not having a kitchen to prepare feeds and sterilise. Since then we joined Disneys Vacation Club so now we have access to a kitchen and laundry facilities.

Also, we flew with Virgin and got a Skycot for DD. It was great as we could lay her down to sleep.

I think that we are lucky in that our DD was always calm and content so travelling with her was easy. I know friends who could not do it with their kids- just depends on their temperament and yours I guess. DD is harder to deal with now so I hope she will be ok on the plane this time too.

I know its not exactly the same issue but we had to bring forward our Orlando holiday in 2003 due to DW falling pregnant. We moved it from October to April. When we rang TCD, they were really, really good. They found us alternative flights with another operator as their flights were full and didnt charge us an ammendment fee. We had a great rip with DW 4 months gone but she was careful what rides she went on and tried to keep out of the direct sun as much as possible.

The main thing was that we were still able to enjoy our holiday albeit on a different date and our DS was not dissapointed. It would have been really hard for us to cancel and let him down and even though he is level headed we wouldn't like him to be left with the reasoning that his new brother meant he couldnt go.

So far as the holiday is concerned, my advice is always 'have baby, will travel!'

I had booked to go to Florida for the Millennium before falling pregnant, and my due date meant that the baby would be about three months at the time of travel. We went, and had a wonderful holiday! Even though she was so little, dd loved it - for the first time, she stayed awake the whole day in MK, with eyes like saucers!

It would be a shame to disappoint everyone, and in a way it can be easier with babies - they are so much more portable and don't want to run up and down the aisles of a plane for 9 hours! I can understand your concern about the heat, but again, a baby in a pushchair is easier to shade than a toddler.

Stick with it, you'll have a wonderful holiday.

I found taking a baby of 10 weeks to disney was alot easier than a toddler The only thing with taking the smaller babies is all the extra stuff you have to take with you. I have heard some airlines wont let you travel with them if you are over a certain amount of weeks pregnant so I would check on that if you decide to go early June.

We were in exactly the same position as yourself, our littl 'un was born at the beginning of February 2002 and we went to Florida on 5th May of the same year.
It was good for the wife as it helped her recover.

Virgin provided a bassinett, we took our baby car seat and three wheeler pushchair with the cot fitted with no problem at all.
All you need to do is keep the baby out of direct sunlight and watch he/she does not get too warm. Its more of a rest and recouperation trip than a "lets gop on all the rides" trip

As the wife was breast feeding, we did not take out formula that year and the next year we just bought it out there.

It was a great holiday!

my son's first trip to WDW was when he was 6 weeks old....well....really his first trip was when i was pregnant with him...
it was fine when he was 6 weeks old....we split up some of the time....i sat with him, while my husband took my daughter (2.5 years old at the time) on the rides that she could go on..

his second trip to WDW was when he was 6 months old and then every half year up to the age of 3, when the trips became annual...
it was never a problem.....we didn't do baby switching or anything like that....i always had my son and my husband would take my daughter on stuff.....for me, just being at WDW is enough...i don't really need the attractions....

i should add that they're 21 and 18 years old today.....still happily making the trips to WDW with us....and both disneyholics just like our name says....

Not trying to put a dampener on things but...the difference temp wise is only 1 degree ave daily high June 91/ave daily high July 92.We made the mistake of going the begining of June once (never again!!) the parks were mobbed,open until midnight & busy all the way!
It would be a shame for your 8 year old to miss out but we wouldn't do it,seen too many stressed parents & baby sweltering in the heat/humidity. Also what are you going to do about the night time parades with fireworks?
We waited when DS was born hence the gap from '94 -'98 & then we've been taking him every other year since.

I have to agree with Shooby Doo here - there isn't much point changing from July to June as it'll be just as hot and humid.

We travelled with DD when she was 13 months old and she had a great time - although she was frightened of the characters on that trip!

The baby centers in the parks are excellent -a nice quiet, cool retreat - we used them on our last trip when DD was 3 - and never found them to be crowded. Even if you're only there for 1/2 hour, it's a nice break.
