I just returned from Best Buy since a friend told me they had the Ipod Mini's at 10% off. I have 4 kids, 3 are ages 8 DD, 9DD and 11DS. My 11 DS really wants an Ipod and I know my 9 DD would love one if she saw this. I am not sure about my 8 DD but when two kids are getting something the 3rd will feel left out. Anyway, Best Buy had pink and green mini's for $179.99. The 3 year warranty is $50 and the adorable cases for these were $25. so, $540 for 2 Ipod Mini's, warranty and cases. Alot! The mini's are discontinued and they are longer making the parts. Supposedly Best Buy will replace the mini with another mp3 if anything goes wrong or the Battery goes dead. The Nano is $199 and seems better. I bought the mini because I figured my daughters would like the colors and the cases. I read the previous threads this morning about the Ipods. Is this being foolish and should I just get the Nanos instead? Thanks in advance for any help!

The nano's are just the new version of the mini. Personally, I think and 11 and a 9 year old should be incredibly happy with any iPod and do not nee the latest and greatest. The nano is a lot smaller (read: much easier to lose)!

At your daughter's ages, there's a good chance of these items getting stolen/lost damged not just by your kids but by the other kids that might borrow, etc........

You can by a decent MP3 player for a lot less money and buy them for all your kids for under $250....

I remember having a walkman at that age...think I went through 5-6 of them... Even for my 12yo DD...I don't think she's responsible for an almost $200 toy/radio..

My son has a green mini - I absolutely adore it (as does he)

Now, i was gonna buy myself a Pink Mini - for Xmas.... but now theyre getting rid of them, and instead of buying a Nano - Im getting myself a Pink Mini - early. :Pinkbounc

You did good.... :cool1:

Are you talking about a $20/iPod difference for the mini vs. the Nano?

For only $20, I would go with the newer one.

I have the iPod shuffle. It holds about 80 songs (although I think you can put more on there) and I LOVE IT! It was only $99 and is the size of a pack of gum.

If you're in education or homeschool, or if you know anyone in education who can order it for you, you can get a 2GB iPod Mini (holds 500 songs) for $179 at the Applestore.com website. They'll even laser engrave it and ship it for free. There is a set of 5 different color Nano Tubes for $26 if you want to distinguish one Nano from another. The trade off is that it has less storage capacity than the 4GB iPod Mini. But does an 11yo really need to tote around 1000 songs?

I checked out a Nano in Best Buy the other day - I would be worried about losing it - it is just so small that I would not get it for my 9 year old.

Howver, I did read that soon Disney will be selling MP3 players. They don't hold as many songs as an ipod but they can use additional memory cards. They are expected to be about $60 each and they will come in several different patterns. My son might get one of those for Christmas!

I just saw the Disney ones on Disney Direct. $49.99. I think I may do this for my 8 year old, 3 year and I am not sure if I should do the Ipod or this disney MP3 for my 9 year old. Thanks for all opinions!

The price difference is only $20, but the $20 cheaper mini has double the capactiy of the $199 Nano. My 9yr old dd has a pink mini, I have a green one and dh has silver, we all love them, and I think what you got was great.

I bought myself a pink mini before a trip this summer and I love it. I bought an I-home for it, so it charges and plays in my kitchen. The first night I let my 4yr old borrow it on the way home to listen to, what does she say? "This is cool MOm, you need to get YOURSELF one of these" :rotfl2: Very funny child but that is mine!!!!!!!!! (I did create her a disney play list though for when we travel in the car she has something to listen to and I can play my own music. Enjoy!!!
