Help deciding on a tattoo!!!

Get it just slightly above the ankle, where it is not so bony. That is where mine is and didn't hurt that bad.

That is where mine is also. Didn't hurt that bad at all. Here is a pic, which I have posted before on another thread.

I like the second one. And I think the lower back is the most attractive place for a tattoo on a woman.

DISCLAIMER: I don't have any tattoos, this is just what I think looks good on other people.

I had mine basically drawn out for over a year before I actually got it. I wanted to be sure it would still have meaning for me & that I would still love it & want it.

Anyway, I got mine on my hip. It is the perfect location - If I want to show it I can, if I don't want to I don't have to. It is not a place I am embarrased to show. Most importantly, I can see it when I want to without looking in a mirror.

As far as pain - I didn't find it too bad. That says a lot since when it comes to pain, I am a wuss. :bitelip:

If you do decide on the lower back, I like the second pic.

I've got two, one over the top of my right foot, it looks like an anklet, but sits on the top, red rose with green vines highlighted with white, hurt like heck, but I love it. Its very pretty and I get a lot of compliments on it. No regrets on that one.
the other one is my lower back and I do have regrets on that one. Its a red rose in the middle of a black design, almost tribal looking. I liked it when I got it, but don't now. I will probably go back and see about changing it a bit.

If you have to ask a group of strangers advice on something you are going to have for the rest of your life, you might want to reconsider. If you dont love it enough to KNOW its the right thing for you, its not time to do it.

While it is a very popular spot right now for womens tattoos, the thoughts men think when they see it is not "oh look, what a nice girl. I bet she is a good mother/sister/ daughter". They think things that I would probably get in trouble for saying on here. Not very family friendly. I was informed it about a week ago by my husband, and 4 guys I work with confirmed it.

I believe that at one time, when lower back tattoos for women first became the "cool" thing, that was the kind of perception men had of those tattoos. However, in time, since most girls that are getting tattoos are getting them there, that attitude has changed a bit. From my inside guy information (guy friends in the military) the "target" tattoo on chicks now are dolphins. For some reason they think that automatically means a girl is easy.

Dh got his first Tattoo in Dec a memorial for his Dad

than a couple weeks ago he got a partial arm band

he is going back in a few weeks for his third tattoo something with
our Girls name in it

he says the pain is addicting
and every Tat he gets MUST have a special meaning to him

these three are so close together because he has been planning and drwing for years

after this one is will most likely be awhile if ever before he get anymore

i want one but haven't decide what yet and until i am 100% sure i will wait

Just to let you know, I am already an EXCELLENT mother/sister/daughter. It has already been confirmed by my children/siblings/mother. Oh, and DH wouldn't trade me for the world. A tattoo wouldn't change who I am. My friends would never think terrible of me or less than a good person. And if someone wanted to think that, then they are either a stranger that likes to judge people or they were never a friend in the first place.

ETA: Your statement is very stereotypical  .

I have a tat on my lower back. And yes, I know almost everyone has one there, but for ME that was the best place to get a tat. I do have people who react funny to my tat. But that is more because they know how scared I am of needles. And if someone wants to think I am a "loose woman" because I have a tat on my lower back, well, that is thier problem.

wdwmom2- I like the 2nd choice for a tat, it is shaped just right for a lower back piece. The only thing I didn't like about it are the words. Don't get me wrong, I love Harleys. The Harley plant is right down the road from my house. But I tend not to wear anything with a name on it. If you really want something with Harley, maybe just use the "H-D" and not the whole name. Just my $.02 worth. Oh, and my lower back tat hurt like heck! But I do not regret it. I have had it for a year, and am thinking about doing another one on my upper shoulder.

Yes, I am definately leaning toward #2 even before I posted this. I really like the design. I was thinking about using H-D and not the whole word. Great minds think alike ;) !!!

And the men with such an ignorant way of thinking are going to miss out on a lot of opportunities to get to know some wonderful women.

And any man that would make assumptions about me because I had a certain tattoo would not be someone I would care to have a relationship with anyways.

I have a delicate floral band around my right ankle, and don't regret it at all--I had wanted one for seven years, and finally just decided to do it. :) And honestly, I kept expecting all this pain like everyone said I'd have, and it never really felt worse that a cat scratch (OK, a cat scratch that went on for 45 minutes!). The hardest part for me was actually walking into the shop and talking to the tattoo artist--I'm a shy, quiet, girly-girl SAHM, and I thought he may give me an eye-roll or an attitude about not being as hardcore as his usual clientel (I should not have prejudged), but I was 100% wrong--he was so professional and kind and really made me feel at ease.

I like the tattoo with the heart. And I wouldn't give a second thought to worrying about how you look in a nursing home--tattoos are so much more commonplace now, those nurses will have seen a million of them by then (although I agree there are plenty of other reasons one may decide a tattoo is not for him or her). I also agree with Aidensmom about her opinion of men who have certain misconceptions about women. They are certainly entitled to their opinions, but as adults, we are entitled to dismiss them. :)

Think some more about it, and when you finally get to the point where it's something you know you really, really want, then I'd say go for it!

In my experience, it isn't the parts of the body that are bony, but the parts that AREN'T that hurt worse. I have one on my ankle. Yes, it was uncomfortable, but not compared to the (MUCH smaller) one on my stomach!
When I got the tattoo, the artist said that the stomach was the 2nd most painful spot she'd ever been tattooed, and her butt was the first. Of course, she said this right after she'd started, so there was no going back.

I agree, the one on my stomach was 10 times worse than the one on my lower leg. If that had been my first one, it would have been my last.

Another funny thing about my stomach, he kept hitting a nerve that made my leg shake like when you scratch a dogs stomach. It took forever to do the tattoo because he had to keep stopping. :lmao:

I have one in the middle of my back. It is a celtic knotwork shamrock (I am irish). It is right on my spine, which everyone told me was very painful....it really wasn't. I don't think tattoo's are all that painful with the exception of a few areas.

Get it where ever YOU feel comfortable. Who cares if everyone and their mother has one on their back. I put mine there so I could cover it up. I work in an office and can't get it somewhere it is visibile all the time.

I think they are addicting. DH has two and wants more. I want another also, but I don't know what yet.

I don't have a tattoo, but I'll tell you why a friend of mine regretted hers. It was the design. The skull that she thought was really "rad" :lmao: at 18 wasn't so cool anymore at 25, and even worse now at 40. She went back and had it covered up with a tattoo of a rose. If you look at it closely, though, you can still see the skull in there.

I'm not comparing a Harley tattoo to a skull, but just saying make sure it's something that you will really love all your life.

I too, like the heart one.

Are those the actual tattoo examples? They look like patches. I like the heart better, but I'm not sure if you'll get that level of detail on a real tattoo.

BTW, I don't have one. I keep on thinking I would like one, but I can't settle on exactly what I want. AFAIK, it's forever.

Yep, you are right, they are patches. I saw them and liked the designs.

My vote is for number two, and yes, I'm one of the ones that got one that now regrets it.

I have two small flowers on the inside of my left ankle and when I'm working I have to put a band-aid over it. I actually have tan lines around the band-aid. That's how much it's covered up.

Putting a band-aid over it, really isn't that big of a deal, but when I go to the store, or I'm on my own time, I don't necessarily feel like covering it up. It never fails, I'll run into a past client and they see it.

I'm sure they see the band-aid over and over again, and have drawn their own conclusions, but I'm very self-conscious of it. It's not that I don't like it, or tattoos in general, for that matter; I got mine on my honeymoon, so it has special meaning to it.

I am going to be having it lasered off. It was supposed to already be done, but life got in the way and I've had to postpone it. Hopefully by next fall, it'll be history.
