Help! Daughter Throwing Up!

My husband always got sick after getting a flu shot - so he stopped getting them and hasn't been sick since. He's a strange man, though...

DD18 just spent a night in her college's med center inpatient wing for the same symptoms as the OP's daughter. She needed an IV to rehydrate. Call your pediatrician!

Sounds like she may be on the mend. We have used flat caffeine free cola for our sick tummies with great success. I make them wait for at least an hour after vomitting and they get 2 tsp every 20-30 min or so as long as they keep it down. Repeat the hour wait if they vomit. Cola is very soothing to the stomach, especially once it is flat. Also, as others have mentioned. Motrin is very hard on the stomach...I only use it for my kids when they are healthy/eating fine but have a pain.

I agree with the flat cola. They actually sell coke syrup at our local Walgreens for upset tummies. Or else you can try flat 7-up or ginger ale.

When we were sick when we were little my mom would mix up the jello powder packet with water and have us sip that. It supposedly gets some nutrients into your body without being to hard on your system. Plain water when you are vomiting is a big no-no. One of the worst things you can try.

I'm glad it sounds like your daughter is doing a little better. Hopefully the worst is over.

The only thin I have to offer is to make sure she can move her head well. Look for neck stiffness or unwillingness to 'swivel' her head to look around. If you notice that, get her to the doctor. Otherwise, I think you are doing everything just right. Hugs Mama! Hopefully she will be better really soon.

Thank you everyone for the advice & good wishes. I wish I could say that I will never need it again, but I'll have it for next go round. She is feeling better & has not thrown up again, it must have been a 24 hour bug thank goodness. She asked for & ate 2 pieces of toast earlier & wanted some iced tea to drink. I normally don't worry this much over a stomach bug, but the combo with the headache & the flu shot really had me concerned. Now lets pray that it doesn't hit the rest of us!

DD18 mos. has had a really bad cold & cough the past few days with no fever & last night DS8 coughed all evening & now is on his way with DH to a rainy cub scout camp out that I could not talk them out of!! DH's can be so annoying sometimes!!

Anyway, thank you all again so much for the advice! I don't know how true this is & I didn't try it, but a lady at work said to try boiling a box of strawberry jello, let it cool w/o adding cold water & then have DD drink it. Has anyone ever had any success with something like this?

OMGoodness, yes! My mom used to give us liquid jello to drink a couple hours after we threw up or if we were really feverish. I think it did help. I have done it several times in the past year even, while I was pregnant and sick with "anytime" sickness or stomach flu. I don't know if it was nostalgia or if it really helps, but I did feel better- LOL!

Emetrol for nausea, sold at most pharmacies. Just follow the directions on the bottle, it should help. Best of luck!
