Help! Chances of Aug Waitlist??

DH and I have been debating sneaking in a last minute trip to WDW in August and I called MS to check the week of Aug 18-22 (the only week we can go thanks to the Army) but all they had was a 1br 20-22. Ugh. They had a Studio the 18/19 but while we were on the phone that disappeared from inventory.

Southwest is running DING! fares for that time frame lately for our 2 preferred airports (BWI and PHL) but I don't want to book airfare if the waitlist for the 18/19 doesn't come thru in time.

I didn't book the 20-22 b/c I don't want those points going into holding if we end up not getting the 18/19?

Now I don't know what to do. Any idea on the chances of a waitlist coming thru for the 18/19?? At this point I don't care what size room or where although we would prefer a 1br.

Can someone wave a magic wand and make those dates available pretty please??

I know it is not DVC -but what about a SOG as a back up ressie so you can get your DING price and secure your trip?

That is a great idea but as much as I would love to stay at SOG we really don't want to spend the extra $$ on this trip paying cash for a room. The whole appeal of adding this extra trip was that it was going to be a "cheap" trip for us with DVC, APs and then paying for DDP with our Disney gift card from our add-on. The only real expense was airfare and since we could get that cheap with a DING I was able to convince DH that it was worth it.

If it is meant for us to go then something will open up. If not we will just do something closer to home that week.

Please ... do not give up trying !!!! I have been very successful getting rooms that I waitlisted for at the last minute. Several times, I was abe to get the rooms less than 7 days prior to arrival. Just keep calling MS and ask them to check, even if you are still on a waitlist.... cancellations happen all the time.
If it were me, I'd take any reservation at any resort so you have something, even if in the worst case that means having to change resorts. Then you can try to make changes to it so you don't have to move (assuming you don't want to). Are you waitlisted at every resort ?

I'd be very surprised if nothing became available for that week in August. I have been able to get rooms at the last minute for Easter week and the 4th of July, which is traditionally much busier than late August. Good Luck

Book the airline tickets.......if you can't go southwest will give you a credit to use within a year. I have had to change my airline tickets so many times, they are awesome about it..... if you were to have to cancel... SW will give you a credit # and next time you buy you apply that amount toward new ticket. The room may come thru but that plane ticket will fly away. good luck to you.

It looks like you're coming up on the 30 day mark before your trip. Be sure to call MS if you want to continue to be waitlisted until 7 days before your trip; otherwise the waitlist is cancelled.

if at first you dont succeed try and try again. I wanted to sneak in a last minute august trip as well and could not decide becasue of airfare pricing. well i called MS this morning and was able to get a week in Aug *the 21st through 28*. try early in the morning there always seems to be something available.

Looks like we're having the same problem. About 2 weeks ago friends of mine mentioned they were going to DW and asked if I wanted to join them. They had already booked tickets on Southwest and got 5 nights at Pop Century through Orbitz from 8/18-8/23. The only way I could afford to go, like you, was if I used our DVC points. Called about a week ago - 1 bedroom was open at SSR for the requested dates. We didn't book it though due to my request for the time off at work being in "limbo." Finally called back on Saturday and found out we could only get 8/20-8/23. We told the MS agent that we weren't ready to book yet and I had a meeting with my friends regarding having to move resorts while we were there. Our original plan was to cancel the PC reservation completely, but it started looking like we'd do half and half. Decide to go ahead and call MS back about 45 minutes later to book whatever we could get and WOW - we can have a 1bdr on 8/18, a studio on 8/19 and a 1bdr for 8/20-8/23. Then, of course, the 19th disappears in the middle of booking. So - we ended up booking 8/18 and 8/20-8/23. We cancelled every night at Pop Century except for the 19th and are keeping our fingers crossed that the wait list comes through for the 19th, we figure that the 18th became available within 45 minutes so hopefully in the upcoming weeks the 19th will too. I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for you guys as well. Maybe some pixie dust will hit us both!!!

Well, if anybody would PLEASE cancel BCV for the 18 to the 23, that would free up an OKW studio, lol. We've been waitlisted for BCV since February, when we changed the dates of our trip.

There was nothing available in any size room for the 18th and 19th. I didn't want to go on the waitlist without airline tickets.

Good point. Of course ever since I posted then there hasn't been a single DING fare for our dates.

Thanks for all the well wishes from everyone. I do appreciate it. Unless the airfare specials happen again then it's a moot point anyway but I had really hoped to add this trip. DH will be away from home for most of May thru October so we have that 1 week where he is home and the kids are still out of school.

I haven't completely given up yet but if SWA doesn't have a DING this week then I think our window of opportunity has shut.
