Help! Bought and might regret it. Need advice

Your children's likes and dislikes will always change....so what do you and your DH think? If it is a budget issue, it is not worth the stress....if it's just the nerves of spending money, I would ask myself if this is the type trip I want to make every 2-3 yrs. I think the advice is great to rent points, if it is a small amount of money problem and a too many points thing. Also a small contract sounds like the best for you. There are always 50-100 pt contracts coming up on the resale listings. Let us know what you decide!! Do the best for you.

You've got more than one kid and they said they wanted to try somewhere new. Were you planning to explore new places less often once you bought DVC? How do you and your spouse both feel about that now that you are home?

Do you confidently plan to visit DVC resorts at least every other year (or however ever frequently this points package would cover your accommodations)?

It looked to me as if you were saying that you spend ~$5,000 in vacation budget money on vacationing in a year. That's not all for lodging, is it? Timeshares (DVC) only provide lodging. There are still all the other vacation expenses. When comparing, just compare purchase and maint costs with your accommodations expenses.

Unless you still expect to use the points at DVC resorts, seriously consider cancelling this contract while you can!!! There is no bigger timeshare mistake than making a developer purchase that you don't expect to love using within your home resort system, IMHO. The cooling-off period is specifically designed for this very reason. There is always time later to buy a timeshare from the developer or by resale. They'll still be there!

ITA with the others, if you are not going to use a DVC contract to stay mainly in DVC resorts, it is not worth it. There are many other timeshares to be had that offer a lot more variety of locations, resorts etc just within their own network then DVC does. It would not be worth the hassle, or sometimes low trade value, to use a DVC membership for mostly non DVC resorts.
DVC is FANTASTIC for those that go to WDW or VB, HH on a regular basis. If you looking at a DVC membership for this type of usuage--you could not find a better timeshare. However if you are going to use a DVC contract for the majority of trips at non DVC resorts; there are much better and much cheaper timeshares to be had, that will fulfill you wants and needs much better than a DVC membership.
DVC is the most expensive timeshare in the Orlando area, because 98% of their resorts are located on WDW property. If this location is not something you will take advantage of on a regular basis, why pay for something you are not going to use???

I don't have anything to add to all the great viewpoints you've been given to consider. I'm just curious what you decided! We'd love to know. :D

Also, you may not be aware, that you can buy resales at a cheaper price, you don't have to go to WDW all the time, we've used our points for trips to Europe, and we'll probably use them shortly for a stay in New York City, I also want to go to Hawaii on points in the near future.

DVC changed us, because We're so spoiled now, we hate regular size hotel rooms. And now we have nicer vacations and accomodations.
