Help! Booked non-refundable MCO Hyatt by accident

Has anyone ever booked the Hyatt at the airport and accidentally chosen the "pre-paid, non-refundable" tab (which is the default tab)? I still want the reservation, but with Covid, I don't want it to be non-refundable. Do you think they'll change my reservation or am I stuck with visions of Monopoly man sitting behind a desk counting my money and laughing running through my head, along with the reservation I may not be able to use?

Look at the t&c, does it say immediately non refundable? Or non-refundable after 24 hours?

Call them immediately and explain your mistake. Maybe they will be human and help you. Don't wait around. The quicker you call, the more believable it will be that you just made a mistake and haven't instead thought it over and had buyers' remorse.

I think you're probably out of luck. But if you just booked it today and you call them right away, they may be able to help you out.

I'm a little scatterbrained and have done stuff like this before, and an apologetic phone call to customer service has always worked. (one time I booked $1300 of plane tickets for the wrong dates and didn't realize it right away.... that one took a lot of begging, but they fixed it for me.)

I would call and explain. The refundable rate may be higher (usually non-refundable comes at a discount) but as long as you are willing to pay the refundable rate they should be able to change it for you.

I booked it last week. I only noticed it when I went to check the pricing today to see if it was different. That's when I noticed the default 'tab' was the non-refundable one. And I'm not at home where I can make a long distance call to the US.

:(

I do, but I guess I'll have to check if it covers that.

Funny thing... I booked it on Dec 14 (I thought it was just last week... time flies, lol) and there isn't a charge on my CC yet. I wonder why? I know it says 'advanced payment', though.

There was a prior post similar to this one (a few months ago) with similar issues. it made it sound like the hotel hadn’t charged the amount as there was no confirmation number either

I did this a couple of weeks ago, but with a Marriott hotel. I was booking a hotel in Colorado for my DD for the date defaulted a couple months in the future instead of the next day. Luckily, my DD caught it and I called them up the next day and customer service was able to change it. I did have to pay more for the hotel than my original rate :(.

Did they give you a hard time about it?

Took a chance and phoned. I had to ask them to contact the hotel. They said they could change the reservation because they hadn't actually taken the deposit yet. Had they taken the deposit, they wouldn't be able to change anything. They were able to convert it to a regular reservation instead of an advance payment reservation. I only have to cancel before 48 hours.

What a relief.
