Help! Another car buying question ...

How do you know whether a used car is any good? I have the Carfax on the Honda CR-V that I'm interested in buying, and it looks 'clean', but I'm still worried that maybe it's been in a hurricane or something and they're covering it up.

Like I said before, this is my first major purchase since the divorce and I don't want to screw up.

Good luck with getting a new car! The only downfall with Carfax that I'm aware of, is that the car could have been in an accident or had other damage that was not reported to the insurance company. I don't think they are able to tell you that. But if I were to buy a used car again, a clean Carfax report is still a good thing to have.

I never buy a used car without my personal mechanic looking it over. I have walked away from 4 different used cars because they didn't pass the mechanic's check =) (all were wrecked previously)

It's worth taking the time to have them check it out first.

We do the same. Our mechanic charges $35 for a complete look over and test drive. WELL worth the money.
