O.K., so I am trying to make the little DD happy and do the Akershus princess meal, I know I will try the pasta or salmon and have a good meal, I know the kids meal will be fine but am worried about DH and him not liking his meal and it being a bad experience. HELP ME, what did you have when you ate there? Would you eat it again? What would you recommend (no fish please, he won't eat it). THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!!

The food was good! We had dinner there last month and I tried the Kjottkaker. It was basically a really good burger patty (not entirely sure what kind of meat, though):scratchin ....I remember the sauce on it was really tasty. The appetizer buffet had alot of fish items, but it also had salad, chicken salad, rolled smoked meats and cheeses. We really enjoyed it and would do it again. Have fun!

I really enjoyed the food when we were there last Sept. It was much better then CRT dinner. I would love to go for our trip in Dec but am trying 1900 Park Fare for dinner instead. Had the Kjottkaker which was really good and I loved the desserts. Rice cream = yummy!

We went to this dinner last fall and we are returning next month. We really loved this place! the buffet was yummy - I remember really good salads, cold cuts, pasta, shrimp and breads. I had the pasta for dinner.. Honestly it was just ok, it was kind of plain. Hubby however had the Kjottaker and it was EXCELLANT! Very tasty and it came with really good caulifower mashed potatos. This is what I plan to order next time. The desserts were soooo good too! Loved the mousse and rice cream
I know the food sounds kind of weird, I thought so to. The only reason we went here was b/c it was MNSSHP night and i couldnt get crt or 1900 PF. We were very pleasently surprised! Give it a try - if anything for the excellent Princess interaction :goodvibes

We went there in 9/06. DH and I had the Kjottkaker on the recommendation of our server. It was very good. DD10 had the salmon, though she didn't care for it. She ended up finishing our meals while we were busy taking pictures.

I highly recommend this even if only for the princess interaction. It was wonderful and the highlight of our trip.

We had breakfast here in 12/04. It was fine-standard all-American breakfast items served family style.

On our last trip, we attempted dinner despite both of us not being excited about the menu but our girls really wanted to dine with the princesses. DH had the ribs and I had a chicken/pasta dish. It was "OK" but DH told me that if I plan on returning to this restaurant w/ the girls, HE is not joining us. He just hated the cramped conditions and the food :(

Everyone has their own tastes though, so listen to a majority rather than just 1 person (me). Have a magical trip and I hope your DH enjoys the dinner!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

I ate the Kjottkaker but did not like it at all! My dh and the pasta with chicken and said it was good. The desserts were great!

I read your trip report (it WAS awesome) and I think I remember that your DH is a lot like mine and my DH leaves their hungry every year:) He ALWAYS complains about the food:), but I must say they have added a cold cheese and sliced meat buffet that has made it a little better.

All that being said, he would NEVER miss it because of our daughter. We are planning our December trip and I asked him if he wanted to skip it because of the food, but he said he wanted to see her face when the princesses come to the table.

We usually always go out to dinner, because DH enjoys adding up all the money that we are "saving" by purchasing the Dining plan. But, we did go one year at breakfast and it was really good!

I hope this helps!

I tried the Kjottkaker last year and it was pretty tasy, kind of like a meatloaf patty. We did Askerhaus the last 2 years but my DH asked not to do it this year because he doesn't really like the food. I love the food but then I have grandparents who came here from Norway. This year the DD and I are going to try the CRT breakfast instead so she is very excited that she gets to eat in the castle.

We ate at Akershus 3 times last year, April for breakfast, and August and December for lunch. Both times at lunch I had the Kjottkaker -- very good! DH had the lamb stew in August, but said it was just ok, and he had the kjottkaker in December. DD19 and her friend both got the pasta, one with salmon and the other with chicken and they both really liked it. DD4 liked a lot of things off the cold buffet and by the time her plain pasta came, she was practically full.

I noticed allears has an updated menu from this month, but when we were there for lunch in Dec., the menu had bbq pork and cornbread instead of the ribs. Our waiter said they had just made the changeover from the ribs to the bbq pork, and our receipt still listed it as ribs. DD19 ordered it and said it was very good and I tasted it also and liked it. The ribs are listed on allears so I don't know if they've changed the menu again or not. We're going back in Sept. for lunch. I didn't find the food to be all that different.
