HELP!!! I'm soo confused about the AKL and WL. We booked our trip for the WL but I've heard horror stories about the transportation is it worth switching to AKL????? My kids are really big into cowboys and indians and we really like the WL theme. So I guess my big question is do I grin and bear the transportation at WL or do I switch to AKL... Any suggestions would be wonderful. This is our first time staying at a deluxe resort, we took advantage because of the huge savings from VISA.

Thanks soo much,
Pam

Horror stories about WL transportation?????

We spend a week in Sept (slow season). The longest we EVER had to wait was 15 minutes, and that was because we had JUST missed the boat. Normally, our wait was 5-10 minutes.

WL has so many wonderful transportation options. Direct boat to MK (may stop at FW), boat that circles WL/FW/CR, bus to TTC, direct bus to Epcot/MGM/water parks/DTD (with maybe *1* stop).

We always got a seat, the buses & boats were never crowded (with the exception of after Spectro/fireworks which was only shown once that week).

I found the transportation better than that during our stay at CR (mid aug, peak time, and on the monorail).

The transportation to the MK is fine, it's the bus to the rest of the parks that is the problem. It took me almost an hour to get to AK from WL because it made so many stops. I'm not a huge bus fan to begin with ;). We started to take the monorail back from Epcot and then the short bus ride from the TTC.

The advantage to AKL is that it does not share a bus with another hotel. The disadvantage is that the resort is farthest away from all the parks except AK. The ride to the MK can be 20-30 minutes.

So ... I think it's six of one, half dozen of another. There are advantages and disadvantages to both resorts in terms of transportation. If your kids like the WL theme better, then I think you should stick with your original reservation.

I think all resorts have their good and bad when it comes to transportation. We love both resorts, but we had long waits with both. Timing is everything. Yes WL stops at FW or other places, but AKL is a long ride. So don't worry too much about the bus. You WILL enjoy either place you stay!! The boat to MK was really fun! Be sure to notice the bridgeway of water you go over by the Contemporary! It is strange to see a road under you when you are on a boat!! :teeth: :p

As you can see from my signature I have stayed in quite a few different Resorts. My favorite is WL so much so that I bought at Villas DVC, the transportation isn't horrible at WL I have always loved so many options while staying there. Sure when the bus line is shared with Ft. Wilderness Campground it takes longer, but you can still sit. When staying at BCV and VBW you have five Resorts on one bus line and either have to stand or wait for another bus because you don't even have the option of getting to stand, because the bus was packed.

The AKL is beautiful but because it is so far away from everything else it does take a while to reach any other location.
