DS12 is VERY interested in sushi, but all he has tasted so far are California rolls. DH and I are up for trying it, we just don't know how to start. We would love some suggestions for what to order when we go to CA Grill.

We don't want anything terribly spicy, and we would probably like to avoid anything that is overly chewy. Not sure if that's the case, but it seems to me that eel might have the same texture as a Gummi bear.

So what do you all recommend?

The menu changes so frequently, that the best person to ask would probably be your server. They'd know more about the options on the day you're there than I would. And I'm sure they could do something custom.

I'd start with any fish that you like in a cooked form. If you like grilled tuna, you'll probably like it in a tuna roll. When something is listed as spicy, that is usually because of the sauce that comes on it, so I'd just get that on the side.

Last time we were there we had the hurricane roll which was listed as 'spicy crab, shrimp, tuna, cucumber and tempura squid'. It was amazing. No sauce on it, and I don't remember it being spicy at all.

I'm a fan of the eel myself. Others in my party, who are not over the top regarding sushi, liked the tuna much better than the eel.

Thanks! I figure we'll order a few pieces of several different things so we can each taste it and decide who likes what. :)
