"Hello? I'm in the Carousel of Progress.."*UD1/13pg74"All Good Things...*

For those of you keeping up, we are now on Day 5 of our vacation. It’s Thursday April 23, 2009 and the alarm wakes us up at 7 am so we can eat a quick breakfast, shower, dress and get ready for our day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Just so I don’t forget to say it later, the weather has been absolutely perfect! We wake up each morning and I check the forecast to see nothing but 80's and sunshine! NICE!

We hit the bus stop to head to DHS for rope drop and arrive to see these crowds at the gate.

ThursdayDHS--Disney200915.jpg

My photo time stamp says it was 8:31 and opening was at 9 am. Now, the only reason I took the crowd picture is because we had made the choice to come to DHS on a Fantasmic! day. Disney had actually added a second showing of F! at 10:00 this day. I had concerns, but Fantasmic! is our very favorite night show and we really didn’t want to miss it. So we took our chances and headed to DHS on a day when it was showing. More on that later!

Of course our goal was to hit Toy Story Mania first. It was a new ride for us and we had a strategy! We were going to head straight to Pixar Place, jump in the stand-by line, ride, THEN get FP’s to ride later. I had done lots of research on whether to ride first, then get FP’s or vice versa. Our thought was that by riding first, we at least got ONE ride. If the line to get FP’s was crazy or they were gone when we got off the ride, we had not missed out. SO....that was our strategy and we were sticking to it! ;)

The turnstiles opened and we all made our way down Hollywood Boulevard to where the opening show was. We were pretty far back and couldn’t see too much, but I snapped this pic of the “director” as we walked by after the rope dropped! ACTION!!

ThursdayDHS--Disney200914.jpg

We followed the crowd and ended up in Pixar Place! Like I said before, this was all new since our visit in 2007 and I was impressed! The buildings and the theming were SO CUTE!

ThursdayDHS--Disney200912.jpg

ThursdayDHS--Disney200913.jpg

As you can see by the above photo, we arrived at TSM at 9:02 and the stand-by time was posted at 30 minutes. The FP return time at 9:02 was 10:30. We jumped in line and I snapped a few pictures inside the queue. Again...very well done. Impressive!

ThursdayDHS--Disney200911.jpg

I wish “backwards hat guy” hadn’t been in my way!
ThursdayDHS--Disney20098.jpg

ThursdayDHS--Disney200910.jpg

Notice Jonah is still wearing the Captain Jack sword!
ThursdayDHS--Disney20099.jpg

Before long we were donning our 3D glasses and boarding our car. With 5 of us someone always has to ride alone..this time I rode with Jonah, Jeff and Isaiah rode together, and Dan rode alone.

This ride is really fun! :thumbsup2 It took me a few minutes to figure out the trick to the cannon shooter...I was letting go of the string each time instead of just continuing to pull. DUH! There is so much to look at and the games are really cool! I love the stuff flying out at you and how you can unlock bonus points. It was over before I was ready to get off!! Here is my pathetic score... I think I was on the right. I am really no good at these games, but I had a blast and so did the rest of the family!

ThursdayDHS--Disney20097.jpg

As we exited the ride (I noted that it was 9:30), we headed directly to the FP machines. We DEFINITELY wanted another shot at this one! The FP return time at this point was 12:30. There were a few people in front of us, but we had no problem at all getting FP’s. WOO-HOO!! :woohoo:

Our next stop was RocknRoller Coaster and Tower of Terror so we walked off in that direction of the park. We knew that since we had a FP out for TSM that we would have to ride one of these rides stand-by. We rarely do that, but we’d just have to “bite the bullet” in this case.

We arrived at the end of Sunset Boulevard and checked out the stand-by times for each ride. RnRC was 60 minutes and TOT was 40 minutes. We have a winner! :cool1: We jumped in the TOT line to wait. I snapped this picture from a perspective I had never seen before. It’s there I promise!

ThursdayDHS--Disney20096.jpg

Here are a couple of us waiting in line.
ThursdayDHS--Disney20095.jpg

ThursdayDHS--Disney20094.jpg

Dan, Jeff and I had been on TOT on our last trip and LOVE IT to death! The younger boys had opted for the “chicken exit”, but vowed to ride this time. We were all so excited! We finally got inside the cool Hollywood Hotel and made our way to the infamous elevators. I can tell Isaiah is starting to get nervous, but there is no way he’s gonna let Jonah upstage him...he’s riding! We all got on and made sure both Isaiah and Jonah were seated next to either Jeff or I. Here we go!!!

I cannot say enough about how fun this ride is! Jonah and Isaiah screamed and laughed the entire time! I’m so glad they both liked it...now we can do it again!!

It was still too early to get a FP for RnRC ( we couldn’t get another until 11:30 and it was not quite 10:30). Oh...that also means that the 40 minute posted wait time was about right...our in-line pics are time stamped at about 9:45.

Our next “must do” was the Disney Animation tour so we made off in that direction. On our way there, we passed by and this was just beginning!

ThursdayDHS--Disney20093.jpg

Okay...time for me to make a confession. I LOVE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. Yes..I know I’m an almost-40 year old woman, but I adore it! I love all 3 movies, have all 3 soundtracks on my iPod and can’t get enough of Troy, Gabriella, Ryan, and Sharpay! Ahh...that feels better, my secret is out!

Now, I would not have stopped to watch this show. We had only been at the park for a an hour and a half and been on two rides. I would not have made the family stop to do this for me. But.... remember what I said about Jeff wanting to make things perfect for me?? Well...he knows how I feel about HSM and he wasn’t about to let me walk by...especially since it was just about to start. So we grabbed a spot of pavement and watched!

ThursdayDHS--Disney20092.jpg

ThursdayDHS--Disney20091.jpg

A wide shot so you can see where we were sitting!
ThursdayDHS--Disney2009.jpg

The performers did a great job. The songs were so fun and the dancing was awesome. At one point they picked audience members to participate....it was a fun show! Now, had Zac and Vanessa been there it would have been better, but I can’t have everything now can I??

As the show ended and we dragged our bodies up from the hot pavement, Jeff realized his wallet was not in his pocket. AGAIN??? Oh NO!! :scared1:

Luckily it had just fallen out when he had been sitting and was right behind him on the ground. Whew...that could have been bad!

With my HSM fix under my belt...thanks Jeff....I was time to continue our stroll to the Magic of Disney Animation Tour. Jeff and I had done this in 1992, but not on our 2007 trip.

Did we enjoy the new version? Were we able to meet any characters? Do we EVER get to ride RnRC??

Thanks for reading!

My score was equally pathetic, I think mine was even more pathetic, actually :rotfl2:

I cannot say enough about how fun this ride is! Jonah and Isaiah screamed and laughed the entire time! I’m so glad they both liked it...now we can do it again!!

Brave, brave people you are! ToT is one ride I will be sitting out, while all of my boys ride it - it  me out LOL

We all have our guilty pleasures - it's all good! :goodvibes Oh, I love ABBA, but don't tell anyone! :ssst:

Oh man, he really knows how to get that adrenaline pumping, hey? :rotfl: I'm sure glad he found it quickly!

With my HSM fix under my belt...thanks Jeff....I was time to continue our stroll to the Magic of Disney Animation Tour. Jeff and I had done this in 1992, but not on our 2007 trip.

I hope you had fun on the Animation Tour! Can't wait to read about your adventure popcorn::

I get so irritated with dh b/c he just stuffs things in his pockets...thats how you lose things! Can't wait to hear about the animation studio...did you do the drawing class?

Your secret love of High School Musical is safe with us. We won't tell anybody.

I know what you mean about being a party of 5 or any odd number for that matter. For the last two years, we have been a party of three. One of us usually has to be a lone rider.

Looking forward to another update!

Wow!! It looks like you were there on a busy day!! I guess there was no avoiding it if you wanted to see F! We avoided F! and EMH but were afraid we might have run into a different problem that would increase the crowds... That'll be coming up on day 5!

I'm glad you loved TSM - we loved it too!!

I love the pictures of Toy Story Mania!! We didn't make opening for our DHS day because of breakfast at Chef Mickey's so we decided to just grab fastpasses. It was such a fun ride and the boys loved it!!! But we missed all the fun things to see while we were waiting in line.:sad2: The boys were especially sad that they missed Mr. Potato Head. Oh well- there's always next time right.:thumbsup2

It sounds like you had so much fun on TOT!!! That's so awesome that Jonah and Isaiah decided to ride too and liked it!!!:goodvibes

Great bit of strategizing... obviously, it worked!! :thumbsup2

So cute how Jonah still wanted to wear his POC sword!!

Yikes about the wallet scare! And speaking of "scare" I'm a bit scared about possible Fantasmic crowds. It's a pain in the planning you-know-what now that the showings have been limited!! :headache:

Congrats to Isaiah and Jonah for riding the Tower of Terror!!

I love HSM too, I'll confess. I'm pretty sure it might even be cooler for an almost 40 yr old to like the movies than an almost 22 year old! :rotfl:

Wow!! It looks like you were there on a busy day!! I guess there was no avoiding it if you wanted to see F! We avoided F! and EMH but were afraid we might have run into a different problem that would increase the crowds... That'll be coming up on day 5!

Ooohh..interesting teaser! We really did LOVE TSM! Such a cool ride and very well done!

I love the pictures of Toy Story Mania!! We didn't make opening for our DHS day because of breakfast at Chef Mickey's so we decided to just grab fastpasses. I was glad, too. I thought Isaiah may change his mind at one point, but he was brave! Afterwards he said he wished he had done it before...it wasn't so bad!

Kathy

Jonah wore that sword to the parks more than once. He loved it!

The crowds were a little scary...stay tuned for how we felt about that!

Oh man I'm not in any of your pictures this time  We were there though at the same time and did TSM and then ToT so I really thought we would be. Oh well. You guys are having such a great time and its obvious in your pictures :thumbsup2

I love HSM too, I'll confess. I'm pretty sure it might even be cooler for an almost 40 yr old to like the movies than an almost 22 year old! :rotfl:

Oh good...I'm so glad that "backwards hat guy" wasn't your boyfriend!! I thought about that as I was writing it, but that girl didn't look like you so I figured I was safe! :)

I'm so glad I'm not alone here in my love of HSM! Thanks!

I can't wait to read more about your DHS day!!

LOL! Jonah decided to skip the Goofy hat this day and go with the sword instead!

In my opinion F! definitely affected the crowds. More on that later! :surfweb:

Oh yeah... I totally forgot to comment on the almost lost wallet!! I can tell you from experience - that would have been a big bummer! ;) It must be something about DHS!

Girl--I'm with you on HSM!! I LOVE all of them!! (but I have 2 girls to "blame" it on) So glad you got to see the show!

awww I love the way your hubby looks out for you! And YIKES I am so glad he didn't lose his wallet!

He really is very sweet!

Me too! Not sure if you've been reading right along, but this was the 2nd time he lost it..the first was on Everest.

Oh yeah... I totally forgot to comment on the almost lost wallet!! I can tell you from experience - that would have been a big bummer! ;) It must be something about DHS!

I'm so glad it didn't turn out like your experience. NOT GOOD! We got lucky.

Girl--I'm with you on HSM!! I LOVE all of them!! (but I have 2 girls to "blame" it on) So glad you got to see the show!

YAY! No girls to blame it on here...just LOTS of Disney channel! ;)

Wow, those HS crowds look bad, it looked just as bad on the day we chose to go too!!! We actually only got a few good hours in at HS this trip, and we missed TOT. Next year for sure, it's on our must do list. We did do TSM too!!

I'm not one that pushes the boys on rides, but Jonah had been talking about wanting to go on since his friend came back from WDW in December and Isaiah wanted to give it a shot. Backing out was always an option for them, but they both ended up LOVING it. I think the anticipation was more scary than the ride!

Great start to the day! I can't wait to read more...

Another :thumbsup2 for DH! He's just all about making this experience special for you. What a guy!!! I'm very impressed!

You all better stop..he's gonna get a big head! :rotfl:

I've just read your last two updates, and I'm starting to worry about my NEED to see Fantasmic while I'm there. I can't wait to hear about the crowds... :scared1:

Ohh and Toy Story Mania looks AWESOME!! I canNOT wait to ride it!! :]]]

Keep in mind that it was still the tail end of Spring Break while we were there...all of New England was on break at the time.
