I know nothing about MS. Have been looking at it on the internet just now, finding out about. We are going to Disney for DisCon. Will this effect the trip? Anyone with MS, please enlighten me about this. Thank You.

Welcome, catsrule. We're always happy to have new visitors (I especially like cat lover's myself) :D

Anyway, I have a link that you might find helpful. It's to a non-profit organization called MedHelp that uses very reputable sources for information and a forum where you can get answers to questions about a lot of different conditions.
Here's a link to the National Multiple Sclerosis website too.
As you might have already seen, there are several regular posters to this board who have MS or have friends/family members with MS.

I found this yr. with MS I had to pace myself better then I ever did, stop and tae rests in cool spots, a few times go back for a short nap. I haven't actully done my Avonex sht in Disney, I plan my trips around my shots, afraid that I will get it with the flu like syptoms. I got that once at home and I don't want to feel that way in Disney.

Iwould stress that your DH listen to his body! I found it very important to pick up the slightest hint that I might being over doing.(of course this was because I did overdo and paid for it).Your DH should keep cool and hydrated and rest when he needs to rest. I've had many great trips since I ws diagnosed and plan to have many more. I posted how I took my Avonex with me on another post. I don't know if your DH is on any of the ABC drugs but I didn't have any problems. I just followed my usual routine of taking my Motrin at the same time I inject and it was fine.
Have agreat trip.

Just wanted to say Catsrule that I hope your trip to Discon this fall goes well. I've seen your posts before (I love your graphic) and Sue M and Wheelsie keep this board really hopping. I have found it very supportive in my case and think you'll find lots of support here.

Thank You for your kind words and support, everyone. DH has an appointment with his doctor to see what course of treatment he will be taking. Looking at all of the sites, I can see that he had many of the symptoms. It looks like he may have had this for awhile but wasn't diagnosed until now when he got a spinal tap to confirm it.

Hi Catsrule, I was diagnosed 5 years ago with MS.Here I was 37 years old with 2 young children ,a wonderful husband and a great career as a chef. And BOOM I'm told I have MS.Please keep a positive attitude and your DH must keep a good attitude as well. After the shock and uncertainity fades (and it will)You both will find life goes on.You won't let this disease overtake your life.DH will learn his limitations and to listen to his body.Last Sept we went to WDW.I was worried with the heat etc I wouldn't be able to keep up with my family.Or worse yet have an exhasurbation(sp)LOW and behold it all went very well.Actually we're off to WDW again this Sept.If DH is put on an ABC drug request a sharps container at check in.Housekeeping is more then happy to bring one.Good Luck with DH oh most important...
KEEP A SENSE OF HUMOR

Heidi

PS I still have that great job 5 years later. And I'm in a hot kitchen alot.Life goes on.

LOL Heidi! DH has a degree in Culinary Arts! But he doesn't use it anymore, he said working in a kitchen is hard work! He works in the radiology dept at a hospital now.

Hi Catsrule!!Isn't it a small world DH and I both went to Culinary school.I went to Johnson and Wales.I actually did my coop for college at the Contemporary.Yes working in the foodservice field is very hard work.I left restaurants over 15 years ago.I found life in private schools to be heaven. No holidays, summers off.I have been at a ski academy for 10 years now.It is an ideal situation for my MS.Very low key atmosphere.Unfortunatly vacation comes to an end Monday.Luckily this awful heat wave we've been having is suppose to leave us Sunday night.
When is your trip to WDW??
Heidi

Hee-hee, DH went to Johnson & Wales too! We are leaving the day after Thanksgiving for 9 days, staying at the Dolphin. It has been very hot here too, it is finally raining tonight, we need it badly. Having the summers off sounds very nice!

catsrule, Just checking on your hubby. Hope he is doing well. did he go to the doctors yet, I don't remebering reading when it was? I have him in my prayers.

Hi, catsrule

I was just diagnosed with MS three weeks ago and am also going to WDW the day after Thanksgiving. Here's hoping for warm but not too hot weather for your DH and myself.

I am starting Copaxone on Monday when the nurse comes to train me!

The pharmaceutical company that makes COpaxone has a website that I have found to be very helpful. You do not have to be taking their meds to be on it. It is MSWATCH.com. There are very supportive and helpful people on their message boards.

Good luck to you and your DH.

2 more replies! Thank You. He needs to make an appointment this coming week to see what his course of treatment will be. Doctor wanted to wait till his head got better from the spinal tap first (he was sick for a week from it!). Thanks, Gail. I didn't post anything more on the CB about it, at the time there was just too much saddness as it was.

Maybe we will get to meet each other, disneymom3. We will be staying at the Dolphin. Thanks for the info, and wishing you all of the best. Good luck with your medication training!

Hey kiddo! Just a short note to say enjoy yourselves at WDW! it absolutely can be done - and you guys will settle.. and YES, the support on this board is wonderful!!!
