Well, I had the day off and decided to go see the latest comic book movie adaptation, Hellboy.

A quick summary -- in 1944 US soldiers land on an island off the coast of Scotland to stop some Nazis, led by Grigori Rasputin (the mad monk from Tsarist Russia), from unleashing a cadre of demons on Earth. They're partially successful, because one got through -- a baby demon the soldiers nickname Hellboy. HB is raised by FDR's advisor on the paranormal and becomes the secret weapon of the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. 60 years later, Rasputin is back, along with a couple of immortal Nazis, and trying to bring the 7 demons of chaos to Earth.

Yeah, on the surface it's far-fetched, but hey, it's based on a comic book. I've never read the comic book so I don't know how faithful it is. Still, it was a very good action movie, well acted and well paced. Think of it as the X-Men meet The Men In Black.

I definitely want to watch this movie. I thought the previews were very cool. Thanks for the review.

Matt, my 9 year old is wanting to see this movie in the worst way. How is it for a 9 year old, in your opinion?

It's probably okay for a 9 yr old, Snoopy. Depending on the 9 year old, of course.

The demons reminded me a bit of the aliens in MIB. The lead character wisecracks plenty so the movie doesn't get too intense at all. The action scenes are pretty much on par with other comic book-related movies, like X-Men and Spider-Man.

My DF is going to see it in a few......I'll have him post about it too.

Saw it today with my 11 yo niece and 13 yo nephew. I liked it. It was a little corny at times.

I liked League of Extraordinary Gentlemen much better though.

DH, DD and myself went to see Hellboy yesterday afternoon. We all enjoyed it and yes it was corny at times. We saw the previews to "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow", I thought it looked good too.

Emmagata, I actually liked Hellboy a little better than League. I've read the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comics but not the Hellboy comics. The League movie was not as faithful to the comic, but I've heard Hellboy is quite faithful.

I've heard of "Sky Captain" and it sounds interesting, but I haven't seen a trailer.

I did see the trailer for Spider-Man 2 during "The Apprentice" the other night, and I just have to say WHOA!!!!!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :jumping1: :jumping3: :jumping4: This movie is going to rock!!!

We saw the new Spiderman trailer/preview the other nite, and Doc Ock looks AWESOME (even down to the really bad haircut). I hear they have signed Toby McGuire up for at least 4 Spidey movies, so this might be a good ride...(hopefully a better rendition of Kingpin than we saw in DareDevil).

But anyhow, we're going to see Hellboy tonite; I hear its pretty campy (does anyone use that adjective anymore?)

::yes:: <<< likes comic book adaptation movies...

later...
