DCL has all 3 stops on an excursion... we did it in January. We had to walk over to the bus from the pier (about 1 block), you board the bus and they drive around the center and then onto the tour of the Rum Cake Factory, Hell & Turtle Farm. We went shopping when we got back from the tour, it was only a few hours. We had plenty of time to walk around the center (which is really not that big), then took the tender back to the ship.
Jeanny...Are the three (Hell, Turtle Farm and Rum factory) within walking distance of each other, once the bus takes you there, or do you have to take transportation to go to each.
they are not in walking distance but the rum cakes are so good. the small one have a better flavor and these are the ones that we gave as gift. Just have an empty bag to bring a case of them home!
The Turtle Farm and Tortuga Rum Factory are right next to each other. We did both in about 40 minutes. Hell is a distance away, and for our tour, was the first stop. We took an island tour (not ship tour), and followed the ship tour bus. We paid $15 per person. If all you want are rum cakes, you can get those at almost any store right off the pier.
The DCL Island Tour only goes to the Turtle Farm and Hell and back. But if the Turtle Farm is next to the Rum Factory, I guess we could stop in there and get back to the bus.
When you get off the tenders, there will be all sorts of people offering tours. It was $15 a person for the three places plus admission to the turtle farm-which wasn't much. Took under two hours.
They are not close to the dock, and not within walking distance of each other.
When you exit the ship..there is a taxi stand / tour stand.
It is very easy to grab a taxi for your party to do the 2 hour island tour. Great rate (we did this on our own..not through disney).
They take you to all the famous places plus..a great little tour of the island and have you back in time for lunch. You get let out at hell, the turtle farm, etc. No rushing...plenty of time for shopping and pics along the way.
We visited Hell, the Turtle Farm and the Rum Cake Factory as part of the ship's excursion on the 4/24 Western.
Personally, we found the whole excursion to be very rushed, especially at the Turtle Farm. You had to keep moving very quickly to stay with the tour. We enjoyed it, but would have preferred a little more time to take everything in before moving on.
Actually they sold the rum cakes right on the ship, this was last August. Didn't compare prices 100% because I didn't remember what I paid but the prices looked about the same.
we just got a taxi tour at the taxi tand - it is sort of chaotic as each driver wants to "fill" his van before leaving - we needed one that was wheelcahir accesible so that tooka while.
The turtle farm didn't do much for me nor did "Hell" though both are worth a few minutes (at best) - the rum cake factory is nice in that you have the entire selection of their products there - there are several flavors and sizes which aren't always available at the stores in town or on the ship (the prices were higher on the ship). we had the factory ship some back to our house and it was there only a few days after we were home. shipping wasn't too expensive, either (though I tend to be in the "whatever, we're on vacation" mindset).
We had plenty of time to shop around downtown and had lunch in one of the restaurants overlooking the water - I'd rather go to the beach next time.
We were not rushed at all...again..we did not do the ships excursion...we did this on our own..with the taxi dispatch station at the dock. Worked great..the driver even offered to drop anyone who wanted to spend time on the beach..at whatever beach on the way back to the dock area. We all just asked him to stop so we could take some pictures.
This is an easy excursion to do on your own..and again..we were not rushed at all!
We're doing the Nautilus excursion that morning, but I really want to tour the rum cake factory too. I think grabbing a taxi on your own is a great idea. I hope someone can answer your questions about the rates and times.
