Heely Roller Shoes are EVERYWHERE!

I agree we saw many over Thanksgiving. However, I did hear one CM tell a child to stop skating and to put the wheels away. I whispered "nice job" to the CM as I passed by letting him know I appreciated him asking the child to stop.

Nothing like zapping all the fun out of a child's vacation.

We had the "pleasure" of having these little dickens wheeling like mad right past our resort room doors at all hours of the day and night.. That's not "fun" - that's being inconsiderate, rude, and self-centered.. Sadly the parents must be of the same mind set because not one parent ever requested that they stop.. :sad2:

If kids (or whoever is wearing them) could control themselves, I wouldn't have an issue. However, not all of them have perfected the use.

One kid ran/rolled into DH.

WDW can be crowded and it may be hard to stop when wearing Heelies. I saw one girl rolling down the monorail ramp and almost flipped head over heals. She hit something (a crack, rock, couldn't see) and feel into the railing. I doubt that would have happened if she were in normal shoes.

I seen kid wearing them and no one seemed out of control. The worst I seen was a family letting their son about 8 rolling inside the eating are in Boatwrights at about 10pm.

DH said we should have brought DS and I said "He couldn't have walked around all day on his toes" that is the part I dont understand is how they can stand to "walk" on their toes or have to lift them off the ground for that long. DS really liked his for about a month and now her rarely wears them at all.

My son just got a pair on our recent vacation to Gatlinburg...I was against it since I had seen kids in our local Wally World up and down the ailses cutting people off etc...we bought them anyway for him and told him about manners and when and where he could ride them...well went to Dollywood and he wore them, Dollywood was uncrowded so I told him he could ride them...well a worker told him he couldnt ride them...so he put the wheels up...I had no problem with this.... rules are rules and I explained why to my son...Told him he had to respect the rules...he didnt like but he did....He also begged me to wear them to school and I told him 1st time he got in trouble they would be in the trash....its not the wheelys or the kids for that matter its the parents....if we as parents dont teach them they wont know....just my 2 cents....

Hmmm....asking some kid to get off the wheels is not zapping the fun from a vacation.

I think picking battles is fair. I don't see any harm in the kids using them as long as they are not out of control or hurting anybody. But, is it fair for a CM to tell a kid who uses them well it is okay and tell the one who does not to put the wheels up? Absolutely not. If the rule is there, they have to enforce it for everybody.

Edited to add: Now that I know they are a no-no and are not to be worn in Disney property, I agree they are not okay and should not be worn in the parks. Save them for home. :) JMO!

I guess I'm mean like that, no running with knives, playing with matches or swearing--I may just be zapping all the fun out of childhood.

Robo, DW and I just returned from a 11 day stay also, and we saw the heeleys everywhere, and for something not allowed, I couldn't believe the number of users. We saw a DAD dragging his daughter around with her heeleys, looked as though she didn't know how to use them, so he held her hand in order for her to keep her balance. If the rule is not going to be enforced, I'd love to use my rollerblades in all the parks, :rotfl2:

No kidding. Me too. All that smooth pavement.

Disney will get serious about them when someone gets seriously hurt, and sues them.

We saw a few kids with them on our Thanksgiving trip, but I didn't see any crashes. I think Disney is pretty safe on lawsuits where the kids using them get hurt because it's posted that they aren't allowed. Where they will run into trouble is if one of the kids using them crashes into another guest and that other guest is injured. They will be able to sue saying that WDW was negligent in enforcing it's own rules.

At the resorts, in the lobby, near the bus queues and sidewalks to the rooms.

In all the parks, all the time.

No accidents to report, but I'd say they are growing in number.
(Of course we were there during "Pop Warner" time, too.)

I'd guess they were on every 200th-300th kid or so, which would be about one-third to one-half of one percent, but that's still a huge number when there are so MANY kids.
Ugh, I hate those things!

I noticed many kids using there heelies on our Oct trip. What really bugged me is that DD asked if she could bring hers and I told her they were not allowed in the parks or the resorts. THEN, when we get there, we see kids using heelies all over the place! I even asked a CM in front of my DD if they were allowed and she said "No."

Anyway, it was one of those life lessons...just because everyone is doing it, doesn't make it right...they are breaking the rules, blah blah blah.

Were here right now. Last night we were standing on the walkway outside the main pool at POR talking with some friends. A family with 5 kids with heelys on went flying by us. One kid almost ran into DH and another hit a crack in the pavement and went flying. He landed on his knees and elbows and it looked like it really hurt.

We have seen them everywhere this week. At MGM as we were waiting for the parade a girl on the other side of the route kept "skating" in front of people walking past us. She was running into everyone because she was not paying attention to anything but herself.

DH and I have been talking and cant figure out how the kids can last on them all day. They cant be good for your feet when your walking and not skating.

Yup -- we were there 12/1 to 12/9, saw the d@mned things everywhere (and, yup, I told DS I wouldn't buy them for him and that they weren't allowed in WDW...).

It's not harmless fun when kids are flying all over the place in crowds. I never saw a parent reprimand a kid for criss-crossing back and forth, making it impossible for everyone else to get by, and/or for bumping into people.

Simply walking anywhere in WDW is challenging -- so many people don't look where they are going, or stop mid-"street" to gawk, or try to move in a pack so that no one else can get by. Adding kids on wheels just does NOT work and CMs should be enforcing the rule. This isn't about squeezing the fun out of childhood, it's about keeping the parks safe and comfortable for everyone.

Well we're not talking about swearing, running with knives or playing with matches. So stay focused on the subject at hand.

I'm confused why you care if the child is using the shoes if they're not posing you or others any harm. If you go to vacation looking for stuff to complain about (to CM or others on this board), you're going to find it.

I can't speak for how other parents rear their children. I believe in letting a kid be a kid, but I do keep my son on a pretty tight leash. I go out of my way to teach him how to avoid being rude and discipline him when he crosses a boundary.

I guess I'm frustrated with the attitudes being exhibited in this thread about children wearing and using these shoes. If the child is out of control and in danger of hurting themselves or others, then of course they need to be asked to stop using them.

My son is receiving a pair for Christmas and I'm sure he'll be using them in January while we're at Universal. If he is incapable of controlling himself while using the shoes, either because of balance problems or lack of self-control, the shoes will be impounded.

I'm perfectly capable of making the best decisions myself and my child.

Greg -- whose wife hopes people don’t' start flaming us since we share this account. :)
