Heel cord surgery?

My 8 yo ds is scheduled for surgery on May 27th to lengthen his heel cords to correct his toe walking.

Has anyone's child had this done? I know it has to be done, he loses his balance alot and sometimes falls

My ex-husband's niece had that done, but it was SO many years ago that I'm sure the technique has changed dramatically. For what it's worth, she came through it with flying colors.

If I remember right, they lengthened the tendons in her lower legs, so it might be a completely different thing now.

Yes my best friend in 6th grade (many moons ago) had this done. She had to use a wheelchair for a bit after she got out of the hospital, but I had great fun pushing her around from class to class, etc. She and I remained best friends all through high school, marriages, etc. until we lost touch about 15 years ago, but she never complained about her feet again and walked just fine.

I had it done when I was about 4. I don't remember much about it, but I can tell you that it made it easier for me to walk
